ACCRA, March 6 (Xinhua) -- At least 22 people were killed and dozens of others injured in a head-on collision Monday between a passenger bus and a truck in Ghana, local authorities confirmed.

The bus was traveling from the Northern Region to Kumasi, Ghana's second city, when it ran into an articulated truck traveling in the opposite direction near Kintampo, a town in the Bono East Region in central Ghana.

Eyewitnesses said 21 people were killed on the spot and another passenger died in hospital later.

Washington’s top diplomat in Nairobi says every country can make their own decisions about LGBTWQ rights and that there has been no coercion from the world’s largest power. She, however, insists that even though country’s can decide how to deal with gay rights issues, the United States has a different position which is that it views the LGBTQ rights as human rights.

LAGOS, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian troops have rescued 14 people who were being held hostage by bandits in the northern state of Kaduna, an official said on Saturday.

The rescue mission was carried out recently by Nigerian troops who embarked on an operation targeted at a hideout of the bandits in the Chikun local government area of the state, said Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan in a statement.

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Six states in Nigeria on Friday night withdrew a suit asking the Supreme Court to void the result of the just-concluded presidential election, the latest twist in several challenges facing the ruling party’s victory in the vote.

The states — led by governors in the main opposition party, which finished second in last weekend’s election — had accused Nigeria’s electoral commission of failing to follow its own rules and election laws in conducting the vote and announcing a winner, according to court documents.

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria’s opposition renewed calls for the election result to be overturned on Thursday, a day after the country announced its new president-elect.

“We won the election and we will prove it to Nigerians,” third-place Labour Party candidate Peter Obi said at a news conference in the capital. He said that the election would be remembered as one of the most controversial in Nigeria’s history and that it was marred by irregularities.

N’DJAMENA, March 2 (NNN-NEWVISION) — Clashes between herders and farmers in Chad on Tuesday left 11 people dead, a senior local official said.

The conflict between the two communities 600 kilometres east of the capital N’Djamena began Monday near the city of Mangalme following the theft of cattle, the official said, asking not to be named.

In August, 22 people were killed in similar fighting between farmers and herders 500 kilometres south of N’Djamena.

JOHANNESBURG, March 2 (Xinhua) -- South Africa will host the BRICS Summit in Gauteng Province on Aug. 22-24, said Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele on Thursday.

Gungubele made the remarks while briefing the media about the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

This year's summit will be held under the theme: "BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development, and Inclusive Multilateralism," according to the minister.
