PHNOM PENH, Oct 5 (Xinhua) — Cambodia’s Supreme Court has upheld the decision of a lower court to sentence an unlicensed medical practitioner to 25 years in prison, for infecting over 200 villagers with HIV via the reuse of unclean needles.

Yem Chrin, 60, was arrested in 2014 in northwestern Battambang province, after most of his patients had their blood tested positive for HIV and accused him of transmitting the virus via the reuse of unsterilised needles.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia, Sept 3 (NNN-AKP) – Cambodia and Malaysia signed two pacts today (Tuesday), to boost bilateral trade, investment and tourism, said a joint statement.

Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and visiting Malaysian Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, presided over the signing ceremony of the deals after their bilateral talks at the Peace Palace here.

The documents included an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation or DTA and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation, it said.

PHNOM PENH, Sept 3 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today slammed several world superpowers  for imposing sanctions on small countries in the region.

He said the sanction would hurt not only the country involved but also other countries for ‘no reason at all’.

 “We have no quarrel with this country but we are stopped from doing any business with this country because of the sanction. This is grossly unfair.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia, Aug 31 (NNN-AKP) – A Cambodian court has sentenced an Israeli man to three years in prison, for sexually abusing underage boys, an anti-pedophile organisation said, in a press statement.

Ezra Balfour, 60, was convicted of “indecent act against a minor under 15 years” by the Siem Reap Provincial Court, said the statement, released by NGO Action Pour Les Enfants (APLE), which assisted the police in a probe leading to the arrest and conviction of the man.

PHNOM PENH, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Thirty-seven Cambodian immigrants deported from the United States arrived in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh on Thursday, a senior police official said on Friday.

"Thirty-seven Cambodian immigrants, including a woman, arrived at the Phnom Penh International Airport this morning (July 4)," the official at the Interior Ministry's General Identification Department told Xinhua and asked not to be named.

SIHANOUKVILLE, Cambodia (AP) — A court in Cambodia has charged four Chinese people with crimes over a building collapse that killed 28 construction workers who were sleeping in the unfinished structure that doubled as their housing.

The Preah Sihanouk provincial court said Tuesday the building owner was charged with involuntary homicide, involuntarily causing injuries and aggravating circumstances that cause injury. The construction builder and the daily overseers of the workers were charged with conspiracy to commit those crimes.

PHNOM PENH, May 17 (Xinhua): Cambodia sent the sixth batch of 298 troops, including 25 women, to join a United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in the war-torn West African nation of Mali on Friday.

The troops would substitute the fifth batch, whose one-year term had come to an end, Pol Saroeun, a senior minister in charge of sending troops to the UN peacekeeping missions, said during a sending-off ceremony held at the Phnom Penh International Airport.

PHNOM PENH, May 3 (Xinhua): Cambodia celebrated the World Press Freedom Day here on Friday, with a call for fight against fake news, saying that it is posing threats to peace, democracy and development.

The celebration, held under the theme of the media's potential role in supporting peace and democracy, was attended by more than 100 media representatives and practitioners in the country.

PHNOM PENH, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Friday that the negotiations on hiring a Turkey's power ship to tackle the ongoing electricity shortage have reached an agreement.

"Due to electricity shortage this year, we need to bring a power ship, which is installed with about 200-megawatt power plant, to Phnom Penh," he said in a speech during a government-private sector forum here.

The Khmer Rouge's former head of state Khieu Samphan, 87, and "Brother Number 2" Nuon Chea, 92, are the two most senior living members of the ultra-Maoist group that seized control of Cambodia from 1975-1979.
