YAOUNDE, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon's Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute said Thursday that peace and stability are gradually returning to the country's Anglophone regions of Northwest and Southwest that have been ravaged by over five years of armed separatist conflict.

China's Sinosteel Cam S.A. inks iron ore deal in Cameroon

YAOUNDE, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon and Sinosteel Cam S.A., a subsidiary of the China's multinational Sinosteel Corporation Ltd., on Friday signed a convention that will enable the company to invest more than 700 million U.S. dollars at an iron ore project in Cameroon's South region.

Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development Gabriel Dodo Ndoke and General Manager of Sinosteel Cam S.A. Zheng Zhenghao conducted the signing at the Congress hall in Yaounde, capital of Cameroon.

Cameroon health minister awards Chinese medical workers with special medals

YAOUNDE, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon's Minister of Public Health Manaouda Malachie on Tuesday awarded three workers of the Chinese medical team with medals in recognition of their outstanding work in delivering medical services to the Central African nation.

Malachie honored the workers including head of the Chinese medical team in Cameroon Tian Yuan, acupuncturist Li Yudong and interpreter Jia Fengying with the medals at the end of their medical services in the country at a ceremony held at the Gynaeco-Obstetric and Paediatric Hospital in the capital city of Yaounde.

Cameroonian PM, Serbian FM discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties

YAOUNDE, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Cameroonian Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute on Monday met with visiting Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the Serbian FM who is visiting Cameroon for the first time, highlighted the importance of further strengthening and diversifying relations between the two nations in future especially in the economic field.

Authorities: 17 dead in nightclub fire in Cameroon’s capital

YAOUNDE, Cameroon (AP) — A fire erupted at a popular nightclub in the Cameroon capital of Yaounde, setting off explosions and killing at least 17 people, government officials said Sunday.

The tragedy comes as the central African country hosts thousands of soccer players, fans and officials from across the continent for the month-long African Cup of Nations soccer tournament.

Cameroon conflict looms over Africa Cup of Nations venue

LIMBE (Cameroon) — Droves of armoured vehicles are patrolling the streets of Limbe in Cameroon’s conflict-torn South West Region ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) soccer finals starting on Jan 9 that separatist militants have vowed to disrupt.

Cameroon is hosting the tournament in six cities, but security is potentially most at threat in Limbe, a city on the tropical Atlantic coast whose surrounding region has been rocked by armed attacks since war broke out in 2017.

Cameroon army says kills 7 separatist fighters in restive Anglophone region

YAOUNDE, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Cameroonian security forces repelled a separatist attack in the war-torn English-speaking region of Northwest on Thursday, killing seven militants and injuring dozens of others, the military has said.

One soldier was injured in the encounter in Shuk, a village in the region, and significant quantities of weapons were recovered by government forces, the army said in a statement Thursday night.

It said dozens of separatist rebels, armed with guns and heavy weapons, ambushed and attacked a military convoy.

Cameroon ethnic clashes kill at least 32 as villages are torched -UNHCR

DOUALA, Aug 19 (Reuters) - Clashes between herders and fishermen in northern Cameroon have killed at least 32 people this month, with 19 villages torched, the U.N. refugee agency said on Thursday.

Some 11,000 people fled to Chad and a further 7,300 were displaced in Cameroon's Far North after fighting broke out on Aug. 10 between Choa Arab herders and Mousgoum fishermen and farmers, the UNHCR said.

Officials described the fighting as Cameroon's worst ethnic violence in years.

At least six Cameroonian soldiers killed in raid by Islamist insurgents

DOUALA, July 24 (Reuters) - At least six Cameroonian soldiers were killed and four wounded during an attack by Islamist insurgents on an army outpost in the far north of the country, state broadcaster CRTV said on Saturday.

The attack is the deadliest in recent months in northern Cameroon, which alongside neighbouring Nigeria and Chad, has been battling the Boko Haram militant group for years and, more recently, militants linked to Islamic State.
