India to invest US$9 bln in new deepwater container port

NEW DELHI, Feb 6 (NNN-BERNAMA) — India will develop a large deepwater port on its western coast with an investment of more than US$9 billion.

The port will be built at Vadhavan near Dahanu in the state of Maharashtra by a joint venture led by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), the operator of India’s largest container port at Navi Mumbai.

The total cost of the project is likely to be about 655 billion rupees (US$9.1 billion), the government said in a statement on Wednesday.

New Delhi, Feb 5 (PTI) The Union Cabinet has given its nod to set up a trust for the construction of a Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

Soon after the meeting of the Union Cabinet ended, Modi reached Lok Sabha to make a statement in this regard.

India: NC says Art 370 abrogation 'historical blunder'

New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) The National Conference on Tuesday attacked the government in Lok Sabha for abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir saying it was a historical blunder and has not brought down militancy.

Speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address in Lok Sabha, NC member Hasnain Masoodi said despite the Centre abrogating Article 370 and withdrawing special status, a senior police officer was caught "hand in gloves" with militants.

India: Sonia stable, condition improving: Hospital authorities

New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who is undergoing treatment for a stomach infection at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital here, is stable and her condition has improved, the hospital authorities said on Tuesday.

Gandhi was admitted to the hospital on Sunday evening.

India: PM seeking to use budget to sack Sitharaman: Rahul

New Delhi, Feb 5 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking to use the "useless" budget presented by a "clueless" Nirmala Sitharaman to dump the entire blame on her and sack her.

"Dear PM, The economy has imploded and you must be racking your brains on how to avoid the blame. Use the useless budget presented by clueless Nirmala Ji. Sack her and dump the entire blame on her. Problem solved," he said on Twitter.

India: No decision yet on NRC at national level: MoS Home

New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) The government has not taken any decision on preparing a nationwide NRC, it reiterated in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, amid protests against the citizens' register in the country.

"Till now, the government has not taken any decision to prepare the National Register of Indian Citizens at the national level," Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said replying a written question.

India: BJP asks 240 MPs to campaign in Delhi colonies

New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) With only three days left for the Delhi poll campaign to end, the BJP has drafted its 240 MPs in its push to capture power in the national capital and asked them to campaign for the party in colonies populated mostly by poor voters.

BJP president J P Nadda made the announcement at its parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday, party sources said.
