New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) A 42-year-old man and his two associates were arrested for allegedly supplying arms, police said on Sunday.

The accused, Beer Pal Yadav, 42, was arrested from Ghazipur area in Delhi, police said, adding that his associates Kuldeep Kumar and Manoj Kumar were also arrested.

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) As many as 360 infrastructure projects, each worth Rs 150 crore or more, have shown cost overruns to the tune of over Rs 3.88 lakh crore owing to delays and other reasons, a report said.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation monitors infrastructure projects worth Rs 150 crore and above. Of these 1,608 projects, 360 reported cost overruns and 550 time escalation.

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday hit out at Union minister Piyush Goyal for his remarks that Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee is "Left-leaning", saying "these bigots are blinded by hatred" and have no idea what a professional is.

Goyal, at a media briefing in Pune, had described Banerjee as a "Left-leaning" person. The Nobel laureate on Saturday told a TV channel that the commerce minister is "questioning my professionalism".

New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee visited his alma mater Jawaharlal Nehru University on Saturday.

Banerjee, who completed his Masters in economics from JNU in 1983, arrived in the university early in the morning and later met Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, sources said.

There was, however, no word from administration officials on his visit.

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) Fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of the face value of Rs 4.64 lakh have been found in a bag at a Delhi Metro station by CISF personnel, officials said on Sunday.

They said an unclaimed bag containing the FICN was recovered on Saturday evening at the Kashmere Gate station when CISF personnel were carrying out routine anti-sabotage checks at the public transport facility.

The bag, containing Rs 4.64 lakh FICN, was recovered from near the gate no 8 of the station.

New Delhi, Oct 18 (PTI) The Centre on Friday told the Supreme Court that it is willing to hand over 200 square metre area to a committee of devotees for construction of Guru Ravidas temple in South Delhi.

A bench of Justices Arun Mishra and S Ravindra Bhat took on record the offer made by Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing for the Centre, and asked parties seeking construction of a temple to submit objections, if any by Monday.

New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday inaugurated 100 newly-constructed mohalla clinics, a primary health service aimed at providing medical facility to people in their neighbourhood.

With this, Delhi now has 302 mohalla clinics.

Speaking at an event in Wazirabad here, the chief minister said that next month, 100 more mohalla clinics will come up and the AAP government plans to set up such health facility on every kilometre in the city.

Pune, Oct 18 (PTI) Union minister Piyush Goyal on Friday dubbed Indian-American Abhijit Banerjee, who won the 2019 Nobel for Economics, as Left-leaning.

Patel made the remarks at a media briefing here.

"I congratulate Abhijit Banerjee for winning the Nobel prize. You all know that his thinking is totally Left-leaning," Goyal said.

New Delhi/Kolkata, Oct 18 (PTI) The BSF on Friday said the Bangladeshi action of killing their trooper and injuring another along the border in West Bengal was unprovoked and that its troops did not fire "a single bullet" when a flag meeting took place between the two sides.

A senior official rejected the claim made by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) that its patrol team "had to open fire in self-defence amid gunfire by BSF men".

New Delhi, Oct 18 (PTI) Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on Friday sent a letter to the Centre recommending Justice S A Bobde, who is next in seniority, as his successor.

Official Sources told PTI that Justice Gogoi wrote a letter to the Ministry of Law and Justice recommending Justice Bobde to be the next chief justice.

Justice Gogoi, who was sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India on October 3, 2018, will demit office on November 17.
