India: 25-yr-old shot at for marrying woman from same 'gotra'

New Delhi, May 15 (PTI) A 25-year-old man sustained a bullet injury following an argument with the relatives of his wife who were against their marriage as they belonged to same 'gotra', police said Wednesday.

The couple eloped and got married in November last year, police said, adding that the two were staying in Matiala in West Delhi after their marriage.

India: Sushma Swaraj holds talks with Iranian Foreign Minister

New Delhi, May 14 (PTI) External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Tuesday held "constructive" discussions with her Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif on all bilateral issues of mutual interests.

The talks by the two foreign ministers came 12 days after the US ended six-month-long exemptions from sanctions to India and seven other countries to buy oil from Iran.

It is learnt that the issue figured in the talks.

Indian Polls: Priyanka to hold roadshow in Varanasi

Varanasi, May 14 (PTI) Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will hold a roadshow Wednesday in the constituency represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, her party said.

The Congress show of strength in the temple town comes nearly three weeks after Modi held his own roadshow here, a day before filing his nomination papers.

Congress leaders here said the party's local unit has made elaborate plans to pull in the crowds for Priyanka Gandhi's roadshow.

13 Pakistani nationals repatriated through Attari-Wagah border

New Delhi, May 14 (PTI) Thirteen Pakistani nationals, including four fishermen, were repatriated to Pakistan on Tuesday through the Attari-Wagah border, the country's High Commission here said.

They were handed over to Pakistani authorities in the presence of officials of the Pakistan High Commission, it said.

Thirteen Pakistani nationals -- nine civil prisoners and four fishermen, were repatriated on May 14 through the Attari-Wagah border, the mission said in a statement.

India: Retail inflation up by about 3% in April

New Delhi, May 13; GANASHAKTI: India’s retail inflation inched up in April to 2.92% from 2.86% a month ago, even though it remained well within the target of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Modest inflation and growing concern over growth may force the RBI to go for another round of rate cut in June.

Vegetable price inflation which turned positive last month grew 2.87% in April, while overall food and beverages inflation stood at 1.38% during the month.

Only one Indian client of Iran takes up extra Saudi oil for June

NEW DELHI; Reuters/GANASHAKTI - Only one Indian buyer of Iranian oil has taken up Saudi Arabia’s offer of additional oil to make up for the loss of supplies from Tehran due to U.S. sanctions, taking an extra 2 million barrels from the Kingdom for June shipment, industry sources said.

Last month, Saudi Arabia approached Indian buyers offering them additional supplies to compensate for loss of Iranian oil after the United States threatened to sanction entities buying oil from Tehran, the sources said.

India: Govt extends ban on LTTE for 5 more years

New Delhi, May 14 (PTI) The central government on Tuesday extended for five more years the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a terror group that was behind the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The ban has been extended under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, a notification issued by the Union Home ministry stated.

India had banned the LTTE after the assassination of Gandhi in 1991. The ban on the group was last extended for five years in 2014.

Modi govt compromised national security by reducing Rafale jets: Cong

New Delhi, May 14 (PTI) The Congress on Tuesday accused the Modi government of compromising and overruling national security by reducing the purchase of the Rafale fighter aircraft to save money.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala hit out at the BJP after Union minister Nitin Gadkari reportedly admitted that the Rafale deal was curtailed due to do financial constraints.

"Finally, truth is out! 'National Security' stumped by a pseudo nationalist Modi Govt," Surjewala tweeted.

India: IndiGo announces 3-day summer sale

New Delhi, May 14 (PTI) IndiGo on Tuesday announced a three-day summer sale till May 16 across its network that connects 53 domestic and 17 international destinations.

Passengers can avail the all-inclusive fares starting at Rs 999 for travel between May 29-September 28 on domestic and international routes, the airline said in a statement.

New Delhi, May 12; GANASHAKTI:  CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has written to the Election Commission against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly violating the poll code by sharing operational details of a "sensitive" defence mission in a television interview to influence voters.
