Indian Polls: Over 1200 faulty VVPATs delay voting in Delhi

New Delhi, May 12 (PTI) As Delhi voted on Sunday, more than 1200 VVPAT machines facing glitches were changed across the city delaying the polling process, officials from Delhi Election Commission said.

An Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) comprises of three parts - the Control Unit (CU), the Ballot Unit (BU) and the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine.

Delhi woman alleges gang rape by neighbours

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman has alleged that she was gang raped by two of her neighbours in their house in northeast Delhi's Seelampur area, police said Saturday.

The woman claimed that the incident took place on May 4. However, she has refused to undergo a medical examination, they said.

In her complaint, she said that the culprits' mother and sister called her to their home where she was offered a drink. After consuming it, she lost consciousness and woke up in a nearby park, hours later, a senior police officer said.

Indian Polls: 6th Phase polling starts, EVM glitches reported

New Delhi, May 12 (PTI) Complaints about malfunctioning EVMs poured in from several places of the national capital on Sunday where voting is underway.

Adarsh Gupta, a resident of Matia Mahal area, claimed that at polling booth number 84, 85 and 86, electronic voting machines were initially not working in the morning.

Aam Aadmi Party's Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti alleged that EVMs at booths number -- 116,117 and 122 -- were not functioning.

Indian SC seeks Centre's reply on plea to regulate Netflix

New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) The Supreme Court Friday asked for the Centre's response on a plea seeking guidelines to regulate the functioning of online media streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video which display "uncertified and sexually explicit" content.

A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjiv Khanna issued notices to the ministries of broadcasting, law and communications on an appeal challenging the February 8 order of the Delhi High Court order which had dismissed it.

India: IAF gets first Apache Guardian attack helicopter

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) US aerospace major Boeing has handed over first of the 22 Apache Guardian attack helicopters to the Indian Air Force, nearly three-and-half years after a multi-billion dollar deal for the choppers was sealed.

Senior IAF officials said the addition of AH-64E (I) Apache helicopter is a significant step towards modernisation of the force's chopper fleet.

The helicopter has been customised to suit IAF's future requirements and would have significant capability in mountainous terrain, they said.

Indian Polls: Sidhu in fresh EC trouble for his remarks against PM Modi

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) The Election Commission has issued a fresh show cause notice to Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu for prima facie violating the Model Code of Conduct by allegedly making disparaging remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He was given a day to reply to the notice that was issued Friday by the commission.

The poll panel had received a complaint from the BJP that Sidhu, during a rally in Madhya Pradesh on April 29, had made disparaging comments about Modi.

India: Modi hates my family, I will repay him with love: Rahul

Shimla, May 10 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Friday said he will reply with love to prime minister Narendra Modi's hatred towards him and his family.

Addressing a rally in Himachal Pradesh's Una, he also flayed Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party government over demonetisation and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Modi may spread hatred against me and late PMs Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, but I will repay with love, he said.

India: Industrial production declines 0.1 pc in March

New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) Industrial output contracted 0.1 per cent in March due to slowdown in the manufacturing sector, official data showed Friday.

Factory output as measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had expanded 5.3 per cent in March 2018.

During the entire 2018-19 fiscal, industrial output witnessed a 3.6 per cent growth as against 4.4 per cent in the previous fiscal, according to data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
