30 Apr 2021; MEMO: Tonnes of dead fish have washed up on the banks of a lake on Lebanon's Litani river, engulfing a nearby village in a pungent smell, in a disaster blamed on polluted waters, Reuters reported.

Volunteers collected rotting fish carcasses near the Qaraoun lake on Lebanon's longest river, the Litani, where activists have warned for years of water pollution caused by sewage and waste.

Bhopal, Apr 14 (PTI) The apparent spike in deaths caused due to COVID-19 has resulted in crematoriums and burial grounds in Bhopal struggling to dispose of bodies as these facilities have started facing several issues, including that of space crunch.

The number of bodies being brought to the crematoriums or burial grounds has been witnessing a surge over the last few days, say the operators of these establishments.

New Delhi, Apr 14 (PTI) Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday said India will raise its climate ambitions but not under pressure, and that it will not allow anybody to forget their historical responsibility.

He also said that India is suffering because of the mistakes of others and "is not responsible for climate change that is happening".

Javadekar made the remarks during a speech after a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at the French Embassy.

New Delhi, Apr 9 (PTI) Over a third of the Antarctic's ice shelf area may be at risk of collapsing into the sea if global temperatures reach four degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, according to a study.

The research, published in the Geophysical Research Letters journal, found that 34 per cent of the area of all Antarctic ice shelves -- around half a million square kilometers -- including 67 per cent of ice shelf area on the Antarctic Peninsula, would be at risk of destabilisation under such a warming scenario.

New Delhi, Apr 6 (PTI) The United States' Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry, on Tuesday lauded India for "getting the job done on climate" and said it is a world leader already in deployment of renewable energy.

Kerry is on a four-day visit to India, from April 5 to April 8, during which he will meet representatives from the Union government, the private sector and NGOs.

22 Mar 2021; MEMO: Turkey's zero waste project, initiated by Turkey's First Lady Emine Erdogan, has won the UN Development Program Turkey's first (UNDP) Global Goals Action Award, Anadolu reports.

Turkey started the zero waste project in 2017 and it is continuing at full speed as the country aims to free its agriculture from waste.

According to a report, the project also aims to reduce the volume of non-recyclable waste.
