Presence at CIIE "essential" for Italian companies, says Italy China Chamber of Commerce

ROME, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The chief of Italy China Chamber of Commerce (CICC) said on Wednesday that it is essential for Italian companies that wish to do business in China to attend the China International Import Expo (CIIE) trade fair.

The comment by CICC Secretary General Marco Bettin came during a webinar on opportunities for Italian businesses in China held by the Banca Popolare di Sondrio, an Italian bank based in the northern Lombardy region.

USA: Airbus reports new pandemic losses, but stops bleeding cash

PARIS (AP) — Struggling plane maker Airbus says new European virus lockdown measures are making its life “a bit more difficult,” as it announced 1 billion euros ($1.16 billion) in pandemic-related losses for the third quarter Thursday amid a slower-than-expected recovery in air travel.

But CEO Guillaume Faury said Airbus has already repeatedly adapted its operations to cope with the virus and is not predicting major disruptions from the new restrictions, notably those announced in France and Germany on Wednesday.

Russia mulls repaying its state debt to S. Korea by helicopter supplies

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/: Russia could repay its state debt to South Korea by delivering helicopters to the country, the office of the Presidential plenipotentiary envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District said on Tuesday.

The issue was raised during a video conference of Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev and South Korea’s Minister of Economy and Finance and Deputy Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki.

Moscow’s COVID-19 restrictions proven effective, says chief sanitary doctor

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/: The phased restrictions that were introduced in Moscow due to the coronavirus have demonstrated their effectiveness, the city’s Chief Sanitary Doctor Elena Andreyeva said during an online meeting of the Moscow city assembly on Wednesday.

"All measures have proven to be effective so far, including the phased restrictions," she pointed out.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin earlier announced preventive measures due to the surging number of coronavirus cases in the capital and an anticipated rise in respiratory infections.

RUSSIA: Air leak spot aboard orbital outpost looks more like a scratch, says cosmonaut

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/: The air leakage place discovered aboard the International Space Station (ISS) looks more like a scratch 2-3 cm long, Cosmonaut Anatoly Ivanishin said at a post-flight press conference on Wednesday.

"What we see is what I would describe as a scratch. I am not inclined to use the word ‘crack’ because we cannot look deep into the metal’s structure. This scratch is several centimeters long, about 2-3 cm," the cosmonaut said.

The scratch is curvilinear, he added.

Russia: Developer may disclose data on Sputnik V trials due to infections among volunteers

MOSCOW, October 28. /TASS/: The developer of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against the coronavirus, the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Healthcare Ministry, is considering the possibility of disclosing the data on who of the volunteers was administered the vaccine, and who - a placebo in mid-November, before summing up the results of the study. According to the Center’s Director Alexander Gintsburg, this is due to the instances of infection among volunteers.

Covid-19: Cases hit all-time high weekly number of over 2.8 m – WHO

GENEVA, Oct 28 (NNN-TASS) — The number of coronavirus cases worldwide increased by more than 2.8 million in the past week, the biggest number for a seven-day period ever recorded, the World Health Organization said.

As of Oct 25, the global organization was been informed about more than 42 million cases worldwide and over 1.1 million deaths. Over 2.8 million new cases and over 40,000 new deaths were registered in the past week, the WHO said.

Supply of potential COVID-19 vaccines to start in earnest in April: EU's von der Leyen

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The delivery of potential COVID-19 vaccines to European Union countries could begin in earnest in April, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday.

“The big numbers of supplies are due to start in April,” von der Leyen told a news conference, adding that in the best-case scenario companies could deliver up to 50 million vaccines a month to the EU.

EU must step up response to COVID-19, Commission warns as infections spike

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Commission proposed on Wednesday a series of new measures to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in the European Union, saying the new spike in infections on the continent was “alarming”.

As Europe again becomes the world’s epicentre of the pandemic, the EU executive urged the 27 EU governments to do more and in a more coordinated fashion to tackle the virus.

Denmark to criminalise foreign funding for mosques

28 Oct 2020; MEMO: Denmark is set to present a new bill that would criminalise funding for mosques sent by foreign countries and entities, in new efforts to counter religious extremism.

The bill was announced in a Facebook post by Danish Integration Minister Mattias Tesfaye earlier this month, who said that the government would criminalise the funding of mosques in the country by any individuals, organisations, or even countries which “oppose or undermine democratic values, fundamental freedoms and human rights.”
