Macron says impossible to build new security architecture in Europe without Russia

PARIS, August 27. /TASS/: The Western world needs Russia to build a new architecture of trust and security in Europe, French President Emmanuel Macron said, addressing a French ambassadors conference at the Elysee Palace on Tuesday.

"We need partnership with Russia to build a new architecture of trust and security in Europe," Macron said. Pushing Russia away from Europe would be "a great strategic mistake," he pointed out.

Italy's M5S threatens to pull plug on talks to form new government

27 August 2019; AFP: Italy's anti-establishment Five Star Movement threatened Tuesday to pull the plug on tense negotiations with the centre-left Democratic Party over forming a new government, insisting its choice of prime minister was a red line.

The parties have been trying to create a new workable coalition following the collapse of the country's populist government, despite having been bitter enemies until just a few weeks ago.

Spacecraft carrying Russia's first humanoid robot docks at ISS

27 August 2019; AFP: It was second time lucky on Tuesday as an unmanned spacecraft carrying Russia's first humanoid robot into orbit docked at the International Space Station following a failed attempt over the weekend.

UK's Corbyn offers to work with Conservative lawmakers to stop no-deal Brexit

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain’s opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has written to 116 Conservative and independent lawmakers who have voted against a no-deal Brexit to offer to work together to find a practical way to prevent such an outcome.

Recipients of the letter include several former government ministers, such as Theresa May, Philip Hammond and Greg Clark, the Labour Party said on Tuesday.

Oil up 1% as hopes grow for U.S.-China trade breakthrough

LONDON (Reuters) - Oil prices rose more than 1% on Tuesday after U.S. President Donald Trump predicted a trade deal with China following positive comments by Beijing, calming concerns raised by an earlier round of tit-for-tat tariff hikes.

Brent crude LCOc1 was up 61 cents, or 1.04%, at $59.31 a barrel by 1405 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 were up 70 cents, or 1.3%, at $54.34.

Italy bans German-flagged rescue ship to enter its waters: sources

ROME/BERLIN (Reuters) - Italy’s Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has signed a decree to ban a migrant rescue ship operated by the German charity Mission Lifeline from accessing Italian waters, sources at the ministry said on Tuesday.

A succession of charity vessels has struggled over the past year to bring migrants rescued at sea to Italian shores as Salvini, leader of the far-right League, takes a tough line. He is maintaining that line even though the coalition government that includes the League is locked in a political crisis.

British opposition parties unite to try to force PM to seek Brexit delay

LONDON/BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Opposition parties said they would try to pass a law which would force Prime Minister Boris Johnson to seek a delay to Britain’s departure from the European Union and prevent a potentially chaotic no-deal exit at the end of October.

The United Kingdom is heading towards a constitutional crisis at home and a showdown with the EU as Johnson has pledged to leave the bloc in 66 days without a deal unless Brussels agrees to renegotiate the Brexit divorce.
