Germany: West is going to provide support for Ukraine for decades to come — Scholz

BERLIN, October 25. /TASS/: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that the West intends to provide assistance to Ukraine "for decades" to come, noting that a "Marshall Plan of the 21st century" was on the agenda. He was speaking at the opening of an international conference on the restoration of Ukraine in Berlin on Tuesday.

Oil prices rise amid expected supply scarcity

24 October 2022; MEMO: Oil prices rose in early Asian trade on Monday amid expectations of scarce supplies worldwide, before the implementation of the EU's ban on Russian oil imports pushed prices up.

Brent crude future contracts rose 54 cents, or 0.6 per cent, to $94.04 a barrel as of 01:25 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate crude rose 51 cents, or 0.6 per cent, to $85.56 a barrel.

Ukrain: Zelensky slams Israel for not sending arms to Ukraine

25 October 2022; MEMO: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has slammed Israel's alleged neutrality in relation to the Russian-Ukrainian war, Israeli media reported yesterday.

Zelensky claimed Israel's decision not to supply Kyiv with arms had encouraged Russia's military partnership with Iran.

"This alliance of theirs simply would not have happened if your politicians had made only one decision at the time. The decision we asked for," Zelensky told a conference organised by Haaretz.

IAEA preparing to inspect two sites in Ukraine over 'dirty bomb' claims

VIENNA, Oct 24 (Reuters) - The U.N. nuclear watchdog is preparing to send inspectors in the coming days to two Ukrainian sites at Kyiv's request, it said on Monday, in an apparent reaction to Russian claims that Ukraine could deploy a so-called dirty bomb, which Ukraine denies.

The International Atomic Energy Agency's announcement followed statements by a senior Russian officer that two institutes in Ukraine linked to the nuclear industry were engaged in preparations to produce such a bomb. "Dirty bombs" are laced with nuclear material.

Russian forces "preparing to work under radioactive contamination" - Moscow

Malta to spend over 500 mln euros to tackle rising energy costs

VALLETTA, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Malta plans to spend 508 million euros (501.4 million U.S. dollars) in 2023 to ease the impacts of the rising energy costs, Prime Minister Robert Abela said on Monday.

In Malta's 2023 budget plan unveiled by Finance Minister Clyde Caruana on Monday, energy expenditures account for 9.3 percent of the government's recurrent expenditure.

Tax cuts would have saved families with two working adults 510 euros (503.4 dollars) a year, Caruana said, while subsidizing energy costs will save them electricity costs and car fuel.

Russian court hears appeal by Griner against 9-year sentence

MOSCOW (AP) — A Russian court on Tuesday started hearing American basketball star Brittney Griner’s appeal against her nine-year prison sentence for drug possession.

Griner, an eight-time all-star center with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was convicted Aug. 4 after police said they found vape canisters containing cannabis oil in her luggage at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport.

Griner is taking part in the session held at the Moscow Regional Court via video call from a penal colony outside Moscow where she is being held.
