PARIS, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- France's energy sobriety plan will cost 800 million euros (785 million U.S. dollars), Minister for Energy Transition Agnes Pannier-Runacher said on Thursday.

Pannier-Runacher also presented the measures to be taken by the government.

Public lighting in the streets will be on for less time and less intensively, companies must commit to switching off the lights in unoccupied buildings, and working from home will be encouraged in public administrations. Remote working allowance for public servants will be increased by 15 percent.

KYTHIRA, Greece (AP) — Strong winds were hampering efforts around two Greek islands Friday to find at least 10 migrants believed to be missing after shipwrecks left 23 people dead, officials said.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Human rights activists from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, a strong rebuke to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose invasion of Ukraine has ruptured decades of nearly uninterrupted peace in Europe, and to the Belarusian president, his authoritarian ally.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2022 prize to imprisoned Belarus activist Ales Bialiatski, the Russian group Memorial and the Ukrainian organization Center for Civil Liberties.

BRUSSELS, Oct 6 (APP: The European Parliament during its plenary sessions in Strasbourg held a debate, regarding the humanitarian situation following the climate induced devastating floods in Pakistan.  

The debate, held on Wednesday evening, was aimed at discussing the EU response to the situation in Pakistan and how to mitigate the extreme weather consequences of the climate induced crisis, a press release issued by Pakistan Embassy in Brussels on Thursday said.

MOSCOW, October 6. /TASS/: The leaders of most NATO countries are aware that Ukraine’s accession to the alliance will entail the most serious of consequences, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a news briefing on Thursday.

"The leaders of most NATO countries, including the United States and Germany, are in no hurry to speak in support [of Ukraine’s accelerated accession to NATO] as they are apparently aware of the seriousness of this move, which will go beyond all permissible limits and entail the most serious consequences," the diplomat said.

MOSCOW, October 6. /TASS/: It is time for the US State Department to admit its involvement in the situation in Ukraine, from regime change to motives for blowing up gas pipelines, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.

"It's time for Washington to speak loudly, frankly and clearly about its true involvement in the situation in Ukraine, from regime change to their motives for destroying gas pipelines," Zakharova said.

MOSCOW, October 6. /TASS/: Journalist and public figure Vladimir Kara-Murza (recognized in Russia as a foreign agent), accused of discrediting the Russian armed forces, has been charged with high treason, the law enforcement agencies told TASS on Thursday.

"On Thursday, in the presence of his lawyers, Kara-Murza was charged under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code: High Treason," the agency's source said.

BRUSSELS, October 6. /TASS/: The European Union has adopted the eighth package of economic and individual sanctions against Moscow over the accession of four constituent entities to the Russian Federation, including the price cap on Russian oil and import bans worth 7 bln euro, the EU Council said in a statement on Thursday.

"The agreed package includes a series of biting measures intended to reinforce pressure on the Russian government and economy, weaken Russia's military capabilities," the statement said.
