India: Three migrant workers on way to UP die on Maha-MP border

Barwani (MP), May 9 (PTI) Three migrant workers who were on their way to Utttar Pradesh from Maharashtra, mostly walking, died in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, officials said.

The trio were among thousands of migrant workers who have set out on foot for their home states from Maharashtra in the last few weeks amid lockdown on account for coronavirus.

While autopsy reports were yet to be available, doctors said the possible cause of deaths was fatigue and dehydration in peak summer heat.

India: 572 Indians stranded abroad land in Mumbai, quarantined

Mumbai, May 10 (PTI) Nearly 572 Indians who were stranded abroad due to the coronavirus-enforced lockdown landed at the Mumbai international airport early Sunday morning, a Maharashtra government official said.

Of these, passengers belonging to Mumbai were kept under mandatory institutional quarantine in hotels near the airport, while those hailing from other cities were taken to their respective places where they will be kept in isolation in hotels taken over there for the purpose, the official said.

India: 75 pc COVID-19 cases in Delhi are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms: Kejriwal

New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said 75 per cent of COVID-19 cases in the city are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms.

The chief minister said the government has also issued an order for requisition of ambulances of private hospitals, adding that the decision has been taken in the wake of shortage of state-run ambulances.

"They (private ambulances) will have to be pressed into service when the government requires their service," Kejriwal said while addressing an online media briefing.

Malaysia extends conditional MCO to June 9

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) has been extended until June 9, which means interstate travel for Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration is not allowed, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

The prime minister said the four-week extension was made on the advice of the Health Ministry (MOH) and the National Security Council (NSC) to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Portugal to take up to 60 unaccompanied migrant children from Greek camps

LISBON, May 10 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Portugal is to take up to 60 unaccompanied children from Greek refugee camps as concern mounts over the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the vulnerable group.

The children are expected to arrive in Portugal within the next few weeks, Socialist Party lawmaker Isabel Santos said during an online conference to celebrate Europe Day. The member of the European Parliament did not specify a date.

At least 5,200 unaccompanied minors live in Greece, many of them under harsh conditions in camps on islands in the Aegean.

China reports 15 new asymptomatic coronavirus cases

Beijing, May 9 (PTI) China has reported 15 new asymptomatic coronavirus cases, taking their total to 836 while one new imported COVID-19 infection was confirmed, health officials said on Saturday.

According to China's National Health Commission (NHC), as for Friday 836 asymptomatic cases, including 63 from overseas, were still under medical observation.

USA: Coronavirus strikes staffers inside the White House

Washington, May 9 (AP) Vice President Mike Pence's press secretary has the coronavirus, the White House said, making her the second person who works at the White House complex known to test positive for the virus this week.

President Donald Trump, who publicly identified the affected Pence aide, said he was not worried about the virus spreading in the White House. Nonetheless, officials said they were stepping up safety protocols for the complex.

India: Migrant worker found dead in quarantine centre

Berhampur (Odisha), May 8 (PTI) A 40-year-old migrant worker was on Friday found dead in a quarantine centre in Ganjam district where he was lodged after returning from Surat in Gujarat, a police official said.

The deceased was kept at the quarantine centre set up at Dhunkapada high school in Polasara block since Tuesday after he arrived from Surat in a train, Ganjam Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Rai said.

India: Five held in Kerala for holding prayers at mosque

Thrissur(Ker), May 9 (PTI) Five people were arrested for allegedly conducting congregational prayers at a mosque here in violationofthe COVID-19 lockdown norms.

A case was registered against five people for conducting evening prayers on Friday, police said.

On receiving information that prayers were being conducted at the Eriyad Masjidul Bilal mosque here, the police reached the spot and arrested the five, who were later let off on station bail.
