India: Jewelery store looted of Rs 2 cr in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, Nov 14 (PTI) Five masked men laced with arms looted a jewelery store of Rs 2 crore at gunpoint in Shyam Park area, police said on Wednesday.

The showroom was located next to the Sahibabad police station, they said.

According to the owner of the shop, Rahul, they robbed all gold and diamond ornaments from the store.

Police have not received the list of looted ornaments till now, they said.

Ramadevi jam irks air passengers

KANPUR: Ramadevi crossing located on Kanpur-Allahabad route remains busy with heavy vehicles and daily commuters. India: Dabholkar case: CBI invokes terror charges against accused

Pune (Maha), Nov 13 (PTI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has invoked UAPA sections pertaining to acts of terror against the accused arrested in connection with the killing of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar.

The CBI made a submission to this effect before Judicial Magistrate (First Class) S M A Sayyad here in Maharashtra on Monday.

Indian PM admits to theft in Rafale deal before SC: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Nov 13 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has admitted to "theft" in the Rafale deal before the Supreme Court and to changes in the contract without asking the Indian Air Force.

On Monday, the Centre submitted a 14-page document titled "Details of the steps in the decision making process leading to the award of 36 Rafale fighter aircraft order" to the Supreme Court.

India: Infant killed by monkey in Agra

Agra, Nov 13 (PTI) A 12-day-old baby died after a monkey snatched him from his mother and left him bruised and bitten on the terrace of a neighbour's house in Mohalla Kachhera area here.

According to the family, Sunny's mother was feeding him on Monday evening when the monkey snatched the infant and ran away with him.

Sunny's family members chased the monkey and later found the baby lying blood-soaked on a neighbour's terrace.

The baby was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead, the family members said.

India: Bihar police says ex-minister Manju Verma untraceable

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) The Supreme Court Monday said it was "quite shocked" that the Bihar police was unable to trace and arrest former state minister Manju Verma, who had stepped down from the cabinet in the wake of the Muzaffarpur shelter home scandal, in a case related to alleged recovery of illegal ammunition from her.

A bench of justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta summoned the Bihar director general of police (DGP) to explain why the state police had failed to trace the whereabouts of Verma and arrest her in connection with the case.

India: Amit Shah's surname Persian, will they change it?

Hyderabad, Nov 12 (PTI) Taking a dig at some BJP-ruled states over their "name-changing spree", AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi targeted BJP president Amit Shah, saying his surname was a Persian word and wondered if it would be changed.

He was addressing an election campaign here Sunday evening for the December 7 assembly polls.

"Shah is a Persian word...will they change it or not... don't know," the Hyderabad MP said.

India: 5 commandos injured in encounters with Naxal terrorists

Raipur, Nov 12 (PTI) Five CoBRA personnel were injured in two encounters with the Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Monday, the first phase of the state elections, police said.

The skirmish took place at separate spots at a forest in Pamed, around 500 km from Raipur. The Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) -- an elite unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) -- was patrolling the area in view of the voting going on in the region, a senior police officer said.

India: Woman killed for objecting to smoking in UP

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI) The National Commission for Women on Monday expressed serious concern over the killing of a woman for objecting to smoking in Uttar Pradesh last week and sought to know what action has been initiated.

"The commission is seriously concerned about the brutal crime committed on the woman. Considering the gravity of the matter, it is requested that the commission may be apprised about the action taken in the matter at the earliest," the NCW said in a letter to UP Director General of Police (DGP) O P Singh.
