India: Rahul appeals journalists to be fearless

Mhow (MP), Oct 30 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday appealed to journalists to guard the truth without "fear", like the Army protects the border.

He was addressing a public meeting here in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.

The Congress chief alleged that Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam accused Mehul Choksi had deposited money in a minister's bank account.

India: Shah trying to "destabilise" left government

Kochi,Oct 29 (PTI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Monday accused BJP president Amit Shah of trying to destabilise the left government on Sabarimala issue and said the soil of the southern state was not the right place for executing his plans.

Vijayan said the CPI(M)-led LDF government would not let anyone convert Sabarimala temple into a centre of unrest.

India: Odisha Cong MLA to resign over Kunduli gangrape incident

Bhubaneswar, Oct 30 (PTI) Congress MLA Krishna Chandra Sagaria on Tuesday said he will resign as member of Odisha Assembly, protesting alleged injustice meted out to a gangrape and suicide victim of Kunduli in Koraput district.

A 14-year-old girl had alleged she was gangraped by four persons in uniform on October 10, 2017. However, the police had ruled out rape, citing medical reports. The girl subsequently committed suicide by hanging herself on January 22.

17 TN fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy

Rameswaram (TN), Oct 30(PTI) Seventeen Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested Tuesday by the Sri Lankan Navy for fishing off Neduntheevu, a fishermen association leader said.

The fishermenfrom Ramanathapuram and Pudukottai districts were arrested at gunpoint, while they were fishing in the Lankan waters early this morning and taken to Kangesanthurai port in the island nation, Rameswaram Fishermen Association President, S Emerit told reporters here.

Their boats were also impounded, he said.

India: MP CM's son files defamation case against Rahul

Bhopal, Oct 30 (PTI) Kartikey Chouhan, son of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Tuesday filed a criminal defamation case against Congress President Rahul Gandhi for alleging that his name figured in the Panama Papers.

Gandhi, meanwhile, said he mentioned the name of Chouhan's son in the context of Panama Papers due to "confusion".

Sania Mirza and Shoib Malik blessed with baby boy

New Delhi, Oct 30 (PTI) Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and Pakistan all-rounder Shoib Malik were blessed with their first child, a baby boy, on Tuesday.

"Excited to announce: It's a boy, and my girl is doing great and keeping strong as usual #Alhumdulilah. Thank you for the wishes and Duas, we are humbled #BabyMirzaMalik," Malik wrote on Twitter.

The couple have named the baby boy Izhaan, which means God's gift in Urdu.

Earlier this year the six-time Grand Slam winner had announced the child will have Mirza Malik as surname and not just Malik.

Two policemen, DD cameraman killed Naxal terrorists

Raipur, Oct 30 (PTI) Two policemen and a cameraperson of Doordarshan were killed and two others were injured in a Maoist attack on Tuesday in poll-bound Chhattisgarhs Dantewada district.

The incident took place at around 11 am in a forest area near Nilawaya village, around 450 kms from here, Deputy Inspector General (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj P told PTI.

The maoists ambushed a squad of local police which was carrying out patrolling on motor cycles from Sameli camp towards Nilawaya on Tuesday morning, he said.

Rupee skids 23 paise to 73.68 against US dollar

Mumbai, Oct 30 (PTI) The rupee Tuesday depreciated by 23 paise to close at 73.68 against the US dollar in line with fall in equities amid steady capital outflows and the strengthening of the American unit against major rivals overseas.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the rupee opened lower at 73.58 and lost further ground to hit an intra-day low of 73.70 against the US dollar on strong demand for the American currency from importers.

However, the rupee clawed back some lost ground and finally settled the day at 73.68, down by 23 paise.

People are feeling betrayed by PM Modi: Rahul Gandhi

Dhar (MP), Oct 30 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi alleged on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has "failed" to keep his electoral promise of ushering in "acche din" (good days) and people are feeling "betrayed" now.

Canvassing for the Congress in Dhar in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi also accused the prime minister of helping only select industrialists while neglecting farmers, tribals and youth of the country.

Saffron coloured buses ply on roads

KANPUR: Roadways girds up its loins to ply the saffron coloured buses on the roads. These special buses were assembled at Central workshop here.

As many as 25 buses were allotted for Kanpur region. According to the Regional Manager Atul Jain, a total of 100 buses have been assembled at Ram Manohar Lohia Workshop and Central Workshop here. The buses’ registration has also been completed.
