Sexual abuse in almost all shelter homes across Bihar: TISS

Patna, Aug 19 (PTI) Sexual abuse, varying in forms and degree of intensity, was prevalent in almost all shelter homes in Bihar, a TISS report made public by the Bihar

government has found.

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), which had conducted social audit of short stay homes across Bihar, has found certain institutions "stood out in a manner that was appalling".

The state government had commissioned audit by the TISS in 2017 and the report was submitted to the Social Welfare Department in April this year.

Married woman gang-raped in UP

Shahjahanpur (UP), Aug 19 (PTI) Police have registered a case against three men for allegedly raping and threatening a 20-year-old married woman here, officials said today.

On August 11, one of the accused, Jitu, called the woman to meet him threatening to upload her sleazy photographs on social media. He also blackmailed to forward the pictures to her in-laws, Station House officer of Allahaganj Police Station Avneesh Kumar Yadav said today.

There, two men - Ramesh Gupta and Sumit - raped her, he said.

Feral cows are destroying crops in India - farmers are angry

Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh: A group of farmers rounded up about 500 feral cows and herded them into SDM’s compound in Vidisha, Madya Pradesh. The whole village was on the road, rounding up the feral cows roaming in the farms, villages and the on the road.

The watchman tried to close the gates when he saw farmers herding the cows towards Tahseel compound.  But the angry farmers forced open the gates and pushed the cows through into the compound.

Maharashtra police arrests the victim, criminals spared

Aurangabad, Maharashtra: Syed Mateen Rashid, a member of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation, opposed a resolution in the municipal corporation to pay tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The 32-year-old Rashid, an AIMIM corporator,  was allegedly thrashed by BJP corporators for opposing the condolence motion, which he thinks has the right to do. A video clip purportedly showing Rashid being kicked, punched and slapped by BJP corporators has gone viral on social media.

Five suspects in Lankesh case involved in Kalburgi killing:SIT

Bengaluru, Aug 16; PTI: The SIT probing the killing of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh today claimed that five suspects, arrested in connection with the case, were involved in rationalist M M Kalburgi's killing.

Twelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the Lankesh case.

Kalburgi was shot dead on August 30, 2015 at home and the case is being investigated by the criminal investigation department (CID).

Mob lynching: one dead, three injured on suspicion of cattle lifting

Guwahati, Aug 16; PTI: One man was lynched and three others were critically injured by a mob in Biswanath district of Assam that suspected them to be cattle lifters, police said today.

Biswanath Superintendent of Police Diganta Kumar Choudhury told PTI the incident took place early yesterday at Line Number 15 of Diplonga Tea Estate under the Sootea police station.

The SP said as per preliminary inquiry, the four men had allegedly stolen two cows from a person named Sankat Tanti and were fleeing in an auto van which had no number plate.

Agnivesh attacked on way to BJP office to pay homage to Vajpayee

New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) Swami Agnivesh was allegedly heckled and assaulted near the BJP headquarters here today by some people, who the social activist said were BJP workers, when he was on his way to pay homage to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

A video of the alleged attack that circulated on social media showed some people heckling the 79-year-old social activist.

868 dead due to rains, floods in 7 states during monsoon

New Delhi, Aug 17 (PTI) As many as 868 people have lost their lives, 247 of them in Kerala, due to rains, floods and landslides in seven states during the monsoon season so far, the Home Ministry said today.

According to the Home Ministry's National Emergency Response Centre (NERC), 247 people have died in Kerala, where 2.11 lakh people in 14 districts have been badly hit by the rains and floods and over 32,500 hectares of crops damaged.
