UNITED NATIONS, April 23 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Thursday that the triple crisis of climate disruption, nature loss and pollution requires ambitious action.

"The Earth is facing a triple planetary crisis. Climate disruption. Nature and biodiversity loss. Pollution and waste. This triple crisis is    threatening the well-being and survival of millions of people around the world," the top UN official said in his message for the International Mother Earth Day, which falls on April 22 annually.

First Commercial Flight In Six Years To Depart Sanaa On Sunday: UN

UNITED NATIONS, Apr 22 (NNN-YPA) – The United Nations welcomes the first commercial flight scheduled out of Sanaa airport in six years, as an essential step in the two-month truce, a UN spokesman said, yesterday.

The flight to Amman, Jordan, is scheduled to take off on Sunday, said Stephane Dujarric, chief spokesman for UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres. “The UN thanks the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for its support, in bringing about this achievement, and the Government of Yemen for its constructive role in making this happen.”

European countries call for end to Jerusalem unrest at UN Security Council

UNITED NATIONS, April 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Five European countries called for an end to clashes in Jerusalem following a weekend of violence surrounding a holy site, in a joint statement issued after an emergency closed-door UN Security Council session.

  The United Arab Emirates and China did not join the statement, despite being among the countries that called the meeting.

UN Security Council condemns terrorist attack against school, education center in Afghanistan

UNITED NATIONS, April 20 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Wednesday strongly condemned Tuesday's terrorist attack against a school and an education center in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.

According to the statement issued by council president for the month of April, Barbara Woodward, the council members condemned "in the strongest terms" the horrendous terrorist attack against the Abdul Rahim-e Shahid High School and Mumtaz Education Center in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul, Afghanistan.

USA: Israeli charged in global hacker-for-hire scheme pleads guilty

21 April 2022; MEMO: An Israeli private detective detained in New York since 2019 on charges of involvement in a hacker-for-hire scheme pleaded guilty to wire fraud, conspiracy to commit hacking and aggravated identity theft on Wednesday, Reuters reports.

Federal prosecutors say the detective, Aviram Azari, organised a series of hacking missions on behalf of unnamed third parties against American companies based in New York, using fake websites and phishing messages to steal email account passwords.

The crisis could plunge up to 1.7 billion people, more than a fifth of humanity, into poverty and hunger on a scale not seen in decades,” Guterres said in an interview with the Czech Seznam Zpravy publication.

Bank of America Q1 profits fall 12%, much less than rivals

NEW YORK (AP) — Bank of America posted a 12% decline in first-quarter profits from a year earlier, a decline that was much less than the ones its rivals had reported the previous week. The nation’s second-largest bank was helped by higher net interest income and no noticeable exposure to Russian assets.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank said it earned a profit of $7.1 billion, or 80 cents a share, compared with a profit of $8.05 billion, or 86 cents a share, in the same period a year earlier. The results were better than what analysts had forecasted, according to FactSet.
