Plane apparently crashes in Russia; 28 aboard feared dead

MOSCOW (AP) — A plane carrying 28 people apparently crashed as it came in for a landing in bad weather Tuesday in Russia’s Far East, and everyone aboard was feared dead.

Wreckage from the Antonov An-26 was found near the airport in the town of Palana, according to officials. The plane was on approach in fog and clouds when it missed a scheduled communication and disappeared from radar, officials from the Kamchatka region said.

Moscow, Jul 6 (AP-PTI) A plane with 28 people on board has gone missing in the Russian Far East region of Kamchatka on Tuesday, local officials said.

An An-26 plane with 22 passengers and 6 crew flying from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to the village of Palana missed a scheduled communication, local emergency officials said. According to the local transport ministry, it also disappeared from the radars.

An investigation has been launched, and a search mission is underway.

Mexico produced test batch of Sputnik V vaccine — RDIF

Russia: Putin, Rahmon focus on situation on Tajik-Afghan border — Kremlin

MOSCOW, July 5. /TASS/: Russian President Vladimir Putin has discussed the situation on the Tajik-Afghan border with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon, the Kremlin stated on Monday.

"[The two presidents] discussed in detail the complicated situation on the Tajik-Afghan border, which was triggered by an escalation of armed confrontation in Afghanistan, including in the border area," the statement said.

Covid-19: Russia cases soar again as Delta strain sparks global resurgence

Russia reports over 25,000 daily COVID-19 cases, a new high since Jan. 2

MOSCOW, July 4. /TASS/: Russia confirmed 25,142 COVID-19 cases over the past day, bringing the total case tally to 5,610,941, a new high since January 2, the anti-coronavirus crisis center told reporters on Sunday.

In relative terms, the number of cases grew by 0.45%.

Some 2,696 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the Moscow Region, 1,784 in St. Petersburg, 432 in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, 359 in the Voronezh Region and 335 in the Trans-Baikal Region.

Currently, 404,115 people are undergoing treatment in Russia.

Over 800 kg of chlorine leak in Russia’s Izhevsk, evacuation not required

IZHEVSK, July 3. /TASS/: About 800 kilograms of chlorine leaked from a container at a water treatment facility in Izhevsk, a city with a population of more than 600,000 people west of the Ural Mountains.

The first report about the incident in the capital of Russia’s Republic of Udmurtia was made by the regional department of the Russian emergencies ministry at approximately 19:00 Moscow time. The department recommended that residents of the nearby Gorodok Metallurgov district leave the dangerous zone or seal doors and windows if evacuation is impossible.
