Higher School of Economics’ experts announce end of recession in Russian economy

MOSCOW, March 15. /TASS/: The Russian economic recession has ended, according to the Higher School of Economics (HSE).

"The growth of main macroeconomic indicators during two consecutive quarters at the end of 2020 technically makes it safe to say that the recession in Russia ended as early as by the beginning of 2021," according to the bulletin dubbed ‘Commentary on state and business’ provided by HSE.

Russia: Alexey Navalny currently in detention in Vladimir Region, court paper says

MOSCOW, March 15. /TASS/: Russian blogger Alexey Navalny is currently in custody in Penal Colony number 2 (PC-2), located in the Vladimir Region, the 235th garrison military court told TASS in a letter Monday. The court will review a lawsuit filed by Navalny’s representative over the investigators’ inaction regarding blogger’s hospitalization in Omsk.

15 Mar 2021; MEMO: The head of Russia's parliamentary group for relations with its Syrian counterparts, Dmitry Sablin MP, has criticised the British authorities for launching a preliminary investigation into the wife of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. The Sunday Times reported that British police are investigating Asma Al-Assad, which could result in her being stripped of her British citizenship if she is found to be guilty of "incitement to commit terrorism".

Russia reports over 10,000 new COVID-19 cases

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/: Russia’s coronavirus case tally rose by 10,083 in the past day, reaching 4,390,608, the anti-coronavirus crisis center told reporters on Sunday.

In relative terms, the growth rate reached 0.23%.

The lowest growth rates were registered in the past day in the Tuva Republic (0.03%) and the Sakhalin Region (0.04%).

Korsakov likely to be first Russian cosmonaut to fly on Crew Dragon

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/: Russian cosmonaut Sergei Korsakov, who was initially expected to fly on Soyuz MS-18 in April, is one of the first Russian candidates for the flight onboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, Head of Russia’s Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center Pavel Vlasov said.

"Sergey is one of the first candidates to fly on Crew Dragon, he has passed all the necessary events necessary for preparing space equipment," Vlasov said in an interview with the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio station.

Russia: Bitcoin surpasses $60,000 and renews its all-time high again

MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/: Bitcoin during the trading session rose by 6.07% to $60,005 and again updated its historical maximum.

At 14:51 Moscow time, bitcoin was trading at $59,897 (+5.69%).

Bitcoin is a decentralized system of the eponymous cryptocurrency based on blockchain technology. It can be issued by any user who is a member of the system. The system concept was published in November 2008, but has exploded in popularity in recent years.

Russia reports less than 10,000 new daily coronavirus cases for 5 days

MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Russia per day increased by 9,908 to 4,380,525, the federal operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus told reporters on Saturday.

In relative terms, growth in the number of cases was 0.23%. In absolute terms, it did not surpass 10,000 for the fifth day in a row.

The lowest growth rates were recorded per day in the Republic of Tyva (0.03%), Magadan Region (0.04%), Jewish Autonomous Region (0.05%).

Russia, after Twitter slowdown, accuses U.S. of using IT to engage in unfair competition

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia on Saturday accused the United States of using IT opportunities to engage in unfair competition and of social media platforms arbitrarily and indiscriminately censoring content.

Russia this week said it was slowing down the speed of Twitter in retaliation for what it described as a failure to remove banned content. It threatened to block the U.S. platform outright, a move which escalating a row between Moscow and U.S. social media firms.
