Brazil's president says hydroxychloroquine to cure his virus

Rio de Janeiro, Jul 8 (AP/PTI) Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro says he is confident that he will swiftly recover from the new coronavirus thanks to treatment with hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug that has not been proven effective against COVID-19.

Bolsonaro said he tested positive for the new coronavirus on Tuesday after months of downplaying its severity while deaths mounted rapidly inside the country.

Kashmir: Parks and gardens open to the public from Wednesday

Srinagar, Jul 7 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced that all the parks and gardens in the union territory will be thrown open to the public from Wednesday.

Advisor to the J-K Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan made the announcement on Tuesday, an official spokesperson said.

Khan, however, stressed that all the people should strictly observe the protocols and medical advice related to the COVID-19 pandemic

India: Guj Congress leader on ventilator; 2 MLAs test positive

Ahmedabad, Jul 7 (PTI) A senior Congress leader from Gujarat battling COVID-19 infection was put on ventilator support on Tuesday, hospital authorities said.

The condition of the 66-year-old leader, who had served as a minister in the erstwhile Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, is stable, they said.

Meanwhile, a BJP MLA from Surat and a Congress MLA from Banaskantha district have tested positive for coronavirus,said health officials from respective districts.

India: Sachin Tendulkar inaugurates plasma therapy unit for COVID-19

Mumbai, Jul 8 (PTI) Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar on Wednesday inaugurated a Plasma Therapy Unit for treating COVID-19 patients at the Seven Hills Hospital in suburban Andheri and urged those who have recovered from the deadly infection to help save lives by donating blood plasma.

The unit is an initiative of initiative of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). It will offer convalescent plasma therapy to COVID-19 patients using donated blood plasma from those who have recovered.

US notifies UN of withdrawal from World Health Organization

India: 71 new COVID-19 cases in CRPF

New Delhi, Jul 6 (PTI) Seventy-one more Central Reserve Police Force personnel have tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Monday, officials said.

Out of the total 1,635 cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country's largest paramilitary force, 842 personnel are under treatment, while 784 have recovered.

Seventy-one cases of the pathogen were reported in the last 24 hours, while there have been 37 recoveries during the same period, according to the officials.

India: Union minister Pratap Sarangi goes into home quarantine

Bhubaneswar, Jul 7 (PTI) Union minister and Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi has quarantined himself at his New Delhi residence after a BJP MLA from Odisha has shared the dais with at two events last week tested positive for COVID-19.

In a series of tweets on Monday night, the Union minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) said he is "hale and hearty".

Sarangi said he had shared the dais with Sukanta Kumar Nayak, the MLA from Nilagiri constituency in Balasore district, at two events on July 2 and 3.

Delhi's COVID-19 tally crosses 100,000; death toll climbs to 3,115

New Delhi, Jul 6 (PTI) Delhi's COVID-19 tally on Monday breached the one lakh-mark as the city recorded 1,379 fresh coronavirus cases, while the death toll mounted to 3,115, authorities said.

Forty-eight fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the Delhi health department bulletin.

On June 23, the national capital had reported its highest single-day spike of 3,947 cases.

However, in the last few days, the number of fresh cases have oscillated, not showing a particular trend in figures.
