17 killed, over 50 wounded in market place blasts in Afghanistan's Bamyan

BAMYAN, Afghanistan, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least 17 people were killed and over 50 others wounded after twin explosions hit a market place in Bamyan city, capital of Afghanistan's central Bamyan province, on Tuesday, authorities confirmed.

"The latest figures indicated 17 people, including a traffic police officer, were killed and over 50 wounded. Several wounded people were in critical condition," an official from provincial health directorate told Xinhua anonymously.

The death toll could rise, the official added.

Afghan peace talks see progress as negotiating teams agree on key agenda: local media

KABUL, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- A progress has been made in the intra-Afghan peace talks in Doha, capital of Qatar, as negotiators from the Afghan government and the Taliban group agreed on the key agenda, a local TV channel reported on Monday.

The two sides agreed to include UN endorsement for the Afghan peace process, commitments of the negotiating teams, the will of the Afghans as well as the U.S.-Taliban peace agreement as the base for main procedural issues and the basis for parley, Tolo News TV reported.

IS attack hits Afghan capital as Pompeo joins peace talks

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Mortar shells slammed into a residential area of Afghanistan’s capital and killed eight people Saturday, hours before outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held what are likely his last meetings with the Taliban and Afghan government negotiators trying to hammer out a peace deal.

The attack in Kabul, claimed by Islamic State militants, also wounded 31 people.

Afghanistan: Mortar shells hit Kabul residential areas; at least 8 dead

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — About 23 mortar shells slammed into different parts of the Afghan capital on Saturday, killing at least eight people and wounding 31 others, an official said.

The shells were fired from two cars, Interior Ministry spokesperson Tariq Arian said. No one took immediate responsibility for the early morning attack that also targeted the posh Wazir Akbar Khan area of Kabul, which houses diplomatic missions.

Missile hits Iran embassy in Kabul

Tehran, Nov 21, IRNA – Iranian diplomatic mission in Kabul announced that a missile hit the embassy on Saturday, adding that the accident had no casualties and all staff are in safe conditions.

Iranian embassy wrote in its official Twitter account that one of the missiles shot this morning landed in the embassy.

It added that several shrapnel shells hit the main building, windows, and installations.

Kabul today observed rocket attacks and explosions which resulted in casualties for civilians.

The remarks came as an international conference on Afghanistan is expected to be held next week in Geneva, Switzerland.

Taliban calls on Joe Biden to adhere to Doha peace agreement

5 killed in car bomb blast in Afghanistan, 8 killed in Taliban mortar shelling

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- At least five people, including an assailant, were killed and two dozen others wounded in a massive car bomb blast hitting Maiwand district in Afghanistan's Kandahar province on Sunday night, local police confirmed on Monday.

The incident occurred when an assailant driving an explosive-laden truck detonated the vehicle outside a highway police camp near Maiwand district bazaar roughly at 8:00 p.m. local time on Sunday, district police who declined to be named told Xinhua.

Death toll from Kabul University attack rises to at least 35

KABUL, Nov 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The death toll from Monday’s attack on Kabul University has risen to at least 35, most of them students, two government sources said.

The sources said around 50 people had been wounded in the attack, which was claimed by Daesh group.

Gunmen stormed Kabul University, shooting at students in their classroom and clashing with security forces for hours on Monday.
