KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Two separate explosions rocked the Afghan capital of Kabul on Saturday, killing at least three people including members of the minority Sikh community and wounding four others, Afghan officials said.

The first explosion hit a store in the heart of the capital, causing it to collapse and kill at least two Sikhs, according to two Afghan police officials. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.

KUNDUZ, Feb 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) – At least 26 people, including 16 pro-government militiamen and 10 Taliban militants were killed, in fighting in Khanabad district, of Afghanistan’s northern Kunduz province today, deputy to district chief, Qutratullah Safi, said.

“In the clash, 16 pro-government militiamen, including their commander, Abdul Hakim, and 10 Taliban rebels were killed, and nine others, including five rebels were injured,” Safi said.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A member of the Afghan government’s peace negotiating team Sunday warned the Taliban that if they don’t resume peace talks in Qatar soon, the government could recall the team before a deal is reached.

Government negotiator Rasul Talib said in a news conference the team is waiting for the return of the Taliban leadership to Doha, where a second round of peace talks began this month but have made little progress.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Taliban attacks in the Afghan capital of Kabul are on the rise, with increasing targeted killings of government officials, civil-society leaders and journalists, a report by a U.S. watchdog said Monday.

It comes as the Biden administration plans to take a new look at the peace agreement between the U.S. and the Taliban signed last February under President Donald Trump.

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Jan 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Three policemen were injured, as a blast struck a police vehicle, in the Surkh Rod district of the eastern Nangarhar province today, provincial police spokesman, Farid Khan, said. The blast took place at around 11:00 a.m. local time.

Targeted killing, mostly in the form of blasts, including those of magnetic bombs, has been on the rise in Afghanistan’s big cities, including the capital city of Kabul.

KABUL, Jan 19 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Afghan President, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, and NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, held a phone conversation over peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

The two sides discussed “the Afghan peace process and NATO’s continued support for Afghanistan Defence and Security forces,” the presidential office said.

“NATO remains committed to supporting the Afghan Defence and Security forces, and continues its mission to train, advise and assist the forces,” the statement added.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Some 10 million children in war-ravaged Afghanistan are at risk of not having enough food to eat in 2021, a humanitarian organization said Tuesday, and called for billions in new funds for aid.

Just over 18 million Afghans, including 9.7 million children, are badly in need of lifesaving support, including food, Save the Children said in a statement. The group called for $3 billion in donations to pay for assistance in 2021.

KABUL (Reuters) - Unidentified gunmen killed two female judges from Afghanistan’s Supreme Court on Sunday morning, police said, adding to a wave of assassinations in Kabul and other cities while government and Taliban representatives have been holding peace talks in Qatar.

The two judges, who have not yet been named, were killed and their driver wounded, in an attack at around 8:30 am, police said, adding the case was being investigated by security forces.

A spokesman for the Taliban said its fighters were not involved.

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan government representatives and Taliban officials are due to resume their power-sharing talks, officials said on Monday, although battlefield clashes and targeted killings risk undermining efforts to end the war.

The talks began in Qatar in September months after the Taliban reached an agreement with the United States allowing it to pull its troops out of Afghanistan and end its longest war in exchange for Taliban security guarantees.
