UAE says will cooperate with UN, US on Libya conflict

UNITED NATIONS, Jan 30 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The United Arab Emirates, accused this week by the United States of military intervention in Libya’s protracted civil war, stated its readiness to work “closely” with the new US administration for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

“There is an urgent need for renewed diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Libya,” Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE ambassador to the UN, said in a letter.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Proud Boys supporter who U.S. prosecutors said kept a large weapons cache and made ominous social media posts, including toward a Democratic senator, pleaded not guilty to charges of being a felon in possession of ammunition and making online threats.

Eduard Florea, of Queens, New York, entered his plea through a federal public defender at a Friday hearing before Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Cheryl Pollak in Brooklyn federal court.

UNITED NATIONS, Jan 29 (APP): Pakistan has called for the implementation of the U.N. resolutions that promised the right of self-determination to the Kashmiri people, saying a “surge in diplomacy” was essential to resolve the old and new disputes.

“The process of de-colonization will be incomplete until the people of Jammu & Kashmir are enabled to exercise their right to self-determination through a UN-supervised plebiscite as called for in several resolutions of the Security Council,” Ambassador Munir Akram told the UN General Assembly on Thursday.

Indian, Pakistani delegates clash over Kashmir at UN

UNITED NATIONS, Jan 29 (APP): Delegates of India and Pakistan got into a fresh verbal duel in the UN General Assembly on Thursday, after Pakistani Ambassador Munir Akram exposed New Delhi’s human rights abuses in the occupied Kashmir as well as the design of the BJP-RSS extremists against Pakistan.

Indian delegate Vidisha Maitra reacted to Ambassador Akram’s pointed words, claiming that Kashmir was an integral part of India.

Exercising his right of reply, Pakistan’s delegate Jawad Ali rejected India’s claim that Jammu and Kashmir was its part.

UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday called for immediate attention to three global emergencies after listing a long string of threats and challenges the world is facing.

"Among the challenges we face, there are three global emergencies that demand immediate attention," the UN chief told the press conference held at the UN headquarters in New York.

The secretary-general said that the first global emergency that needs immediate attention is the "distribution of vaccines for COVID-19."

USA: NY data show nursing home deaths undercounted by thousands

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration confirmed Thursday that thousands more nursing home residents died of COVID-19 than the state’s official tallies had previously acknowledged, dealing a potential blow to his image as a pandemic hero.

The surprise development, after months of the state refusing to divulge its true numbers, showed that at least 12,743 long-term care residents died of the virus as of Jan. 19, far greater than the official tally of 8,505 on that day, cementing New York’s toll as one of the highest in the nation.

Al-Otaibi's remarks came during his address of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly for intergovernmental negotiations, on the issue of "fair representation in the Security Council and increasing the number of its members and related issues."
