India: KU examinees have to bear heat due to poorly aired room

Kanpur: Despite the distinctly harsh weather the students do not flee from appearing at the Kanpur University examinations.

Yet they are failing to bear the heat at the exam centres, as they pointed out.

The examinees desire at least an airy room where seating arrangements are done. How can it be negated?

Telling their woes a few girl examinees appearing at the city's one older degree college in an outstanding area, said the room was large but they were perspiring badly.

India: Gujarat BJP MLA gets two-year RI in gambling case

Halol (Guj), May 11 (PTI) A court at Halol in Gujarat's Panchmahal district on Wednesday sentenced BJP MLA Kesarisinh Solanki and 25 others to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for two years in a gambling case, less than a year after their arrest from a resort in a police raid.

The court of additional chief judicial magistrate, Prem Hansraj Singh, also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 each on the MLA, who represents the Matar Assembly constituency in the Kheda district, and 25 other accused.

India: Scientists at CSIR-NML develop corrosion-resistant rebar

Jamshedpur, May 11 (PTI) Scientists of CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory in Jamshedpur have developed a technology to produce corrosion-resistant rebar.

Principal Scientist Ashok Kumar Mohanty said on Wednesday that rust is formed on rebar when it is exposed to water and moisture. If rusted rebar is used to make concrete, the longevity reduces as rusted rebar does not bond properly with cement.

India: Examinees not allowed water bottle on first day of KU exams

Kanpur: Kanpur university examinations begin today. The examinees reached their respective colleges to appear for the exam. There was a huge turnout of the students at the city's old DAV College.

They pointed out that they were not allowed to carry water bottles in hot weather. 

India: People need development, jobs and not hatred: Pawar

India: Rift open in BJP ally IPFT in Tripura

Agartala, May 11 (PTI) An internal rift in the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), an ally of the ruling BJP in the state, came to the fore after its president Mevar Kumar Jamatia asked the party leaders to boycott a meeting convened illegally by his predecessor NC Debbarma.

On Monday, Debbarma, the state's Revenue and Forest Minister, said that the party's state-level conference will be held on Thursday.

Indian Rupee falls 15 paise to close 77.40 against US dollar

Mumbai, May 12 (PTI) Snapping its two-day winning streak, the rupee slumped by 15 paise to end at 77.40 (provisional) against the US dollar on Thursday, following risk-off sentiments amid increasing concerns over inflation globally.

Weak domestic equities, surging US dollar in overseas markets and persistent foreign fund outflows also weighed on the rupee which plunged to its all-time intra-day low of 77.63 against the US dollar, forex traders said.

India: Youth hit by train while crossing railway lines in Unnao

Kanpur: A youth died after being hit by a train in Unnao district. The accident happened while crossing the railway line.

The police reached the spot after getting the information from the passers-by Following interrogation, the body was sent for post-mortem.

Along with this, the family members were informed about the awful accident.

According to the information received, Anurag (30), a resident of Kushalpurwa, police station at Dahi, Hardoi, had gone to the Mundan programme at the his maternal uncle Sushil, in Butwal, on Wednesday.
