India: Delhi court to pass order on sexual harassment cognisance against BJP MP Brij Bhushan

New Delhi, Jul 1 (PTI) A Delhi court on Tuesday posted for July 7 the pronouncement on whether to take cognisance of the charge sheet filed by the Delhi police against BJP MP and outgoing WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in a case of alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal, who was scheduled to pass the order on Saturday, noted the submission of the city police that its probe is still in progress and a supplementary charge sheet is likely to be filed.

India: 3-judge SC bench starts hearing activist Setalvad's plea seeking interim protection

New Delhi, Jul 1 (PTI) A three-judge Supreme Court bench commenced hearing late on Saturday night the plea by social activist Teesta Setalvad seeking interim protection from arrest in a case of alleged fabrication of evidence to frame innocent people in 2002 post-Godhra riots cases.

A bench of Justices B R Gavai, A S Bopanna and Dipankar Datta is hearing the matter in a special sitting after a two-judge vacation bench differed on granting interim protection to Setalvad.

India: PM Modi biggest patron of corruption: AAP after Ajit Pawar joins Shinde govt in Maharashtra

New Delhi, Jul 2 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday by calling him the "biggest patron of corruption" after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar, along with eight others from the party, joined the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government.

While Pawar was sworn in as the deputy chief minister by Governor Ramesh Bais at a ceremony held in the Raj Bhawan in Mumbai, the eight other NCP leaders took oath as ministers.

Rahul Gandhi's convoy stopped by Indian police in Manipur, teargas fired

GUWAHATI, India, June 29 (Reuters) - Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was stopped by local police on Thursday and teargas fired near his convoy when the 53-year old scion of the Congress party was on his way to visit the violence-hit northeastern Manipur state.

At least 80 people have been killed and more than 40,000 have fled their homes since clashes broke out in Manipur in early May between ethnic groups. Sporadic incidents of violence and arson still occur despite the heavy presence of security forces in parts of the remote state, which borders Myanmar.

House Collapse Amid Heavy Downpour Claimed Two Lives In Western India

NEW DELHI, Jun 27 (NNN-PTI) – A 65-year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl died, and another person was injured, when a house collapsed amid heavy rains, in India’s western state of Rajasthan late last night, confirmed local police, today.

The incident occurred in the state’s Udaipur city, a popular tourist destination. The injured has been admitted to a hospital, and is undergoing treatment, a local police officer said.

Two Goods Train Collided In Eastern India, One Injured

NEW DELHI, Jun 25 (NNN-PTI) – Two goods trains collided in India’s eastern state of West Bengal, in the early hours of the day, with one injured and 12 wagons of the trains derailed, said a senior official.

There was no loss of human life, he confirmed.

The mishap occurred at the Onda railway station in Bankura district of West Bengal. “A goods train entered the loop line instead of the main line, and collided with another stationary goods train on the track,” local media reported.

India: Humidity & heat appear to have vanished due to rains in Kanpur

Kanpur: The drizzling that started on June 21 continues on Thursday. The late-night thunder even shuddered the residents. The morning showers proceeded until noon.

The clouds are still awaiting to precipitate. The weather has turned pleasant due to this intermittent rain.

There was a respite from the humidity with a drop of about nine degrees in the temperature.

A total of 15 mm of rain was recorded on Wednesday, as reported.

The maximum temperature settled at 27 degrees Celsius, down from 35.8 degrees a day earlier.
