US working with India on co-producing extended-range artillery and infantry vehicles to address threats posed by China: Senior Pentagon official

Washington, Jul 20 (PTI) The US is working with India on proposals to co-produce extended-range artillery and infantry vehicles to meet its operational requirements along its border with China and address its "coercion and harassment", a top Pentagon official said on Thursday.

The Indian and Chinese troops are locked in an over-three-year confrontation in certain friction points in eastern Ladakh.

Bengaluru, Jul 20 (PTI) Karnataka Assembly Speaker U T Khader along with Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani and Assembly secretary M K Vishalakshi on Thursday called on Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and reportedly appraised him about the circumstances that led to the suspension of 10 BJP MLAs till the end of the session.

The Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution suspending 10 MLAs including four former ministers -- R Ashoka, Dr C N Ashwath Narayana, V Sunil Kumar and Araga Jnanendra.

Kanpur: As many as 61 cases of conjunctivitis were reported in Kanpur Dehat district while three patients were admitted to the LLR Hospital in Kanpur Nagar.

India: 15 Die Of Electrocution After Transformer Explosion In Uttarakhand

NEW DELHI, Jul 19 (NNN-PTI) – At least 15 people, including a police official and three home guards personnel, were killed and six others suffered critical injuries today, after an electricity transformer exploded, in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, police said.

The transformer, placed at a project site, exploded, electrifying a bridge spanning across Alaknanda river, in Chamoli district, about 266 km east of Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand.

India's Infosys signs five-year AI deal with $2 bln target spend

BENGALURU, July 18 (Reuters) - India's second-largest software services exporter Infosys (INFY.NS) said on Monday it has signed a deal with an existing client to provide artificial intelligence (AI) and automation services that will span over five years, with a target spend estimated at $2 billion.

AI and automation-related development, modernization and maintenance services are included in the agreement, the company said in an exchange filing.

The company did not disclose the client's name.

India: Defamation case; Rahul's appeal against Gujarat HC verdict to be heard by apex court on July 21

New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear on July 21 an appeal of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenging the Gujarat High Court's verdict which dismissed his plea seeking a stay on his conviction in a defamation case over his "Modi surname" remark.

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and Manoj Mishra agreed to hear the plea after senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Gandhi, sought listing of the appeal on July 21 or July 24.

India: Wrestlers' sexual harassment case: Delhi court grants interim bail to BJP leader Brij Bhushan Singh

New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) A Delhi court on Tuesday granted two-day interim bail to outgoing WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in case of alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh granted relief to Singh on a personal bond of Rs 25,000.

The court also granted bail to Vinod Tomar, the suspended assistant secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), in the case.

India: Man gets 6-month rigorous imprisonment in Maha for molesting minor girl in building lift

Thane, Jul 18 (PTI) A special court here in Maharashtra has convicted a 29-year-old man for molesting a teenage girl in the lift of her building and handed him rigorous imprisonment for six months.

The incident occurred in August 2018 after the girl, then aged 13, entered the elevator to reach her flat located on the sixth floor of the building.
