Swiss-based EST Group plans to invest USD 250 mn into Indian startups in next 18 months

New Delhi, Sep 27 (PTI) Swiss-based EST Group on Friday said it is planning to invest USD 250 million (around Rs 1,770 crore) in next 18 months into Indian startups that are focused on fintech applications and related business models.

The group is very bullish about India market and believes that when markets are slow they provide new opportunities, its chief executive officer and director Sindhu Bhaskar said in a statement.

India: Unnao rape survivor's father case: Court records statements

New Delhi, Sep 26 (PTI) A Delhi court on Thursday recorded statements of two witnesses in a case related to the alleged murder of the Unnao rape survivor's father.

District Judge Dharmesh Sharma, holding in-chamber proceedings, recorded the statement of a police official -- who had registered the FIR against the victim's father-- and another person, a lawyer related to the case said.

The court will further hear the matter on Friday.

Malaysian schoolboy wins top prize at international robotics contest in India

NEW DELHI, Sept 27 (NNN-BERNAMA) — A Malaysian schoolboy displayed great skills in building and launching water rockets by winning an international contest in India.

Danish Muslim, the winner of the Water Rocket Challenge at the World Robotics Championship, is studying in the sixth grade at primary school of SK Tun Hussein Onn in Kuala Lumpur.

The 12-year-old participated in the contest with his father Muslim Tamsir as his teammate.

India: UGC asks varsities to send correct degree verification reports to Indian missions abroad

New Delhi, Sep 26 (PTI) The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all varsities to correctly and expeditiously send degree verification reports to Indian Missions abroad.

As a procedure, the Ministry of Education in foreign countries seeks verification reports on degrees issued to Indian students for job purposes. The consulate then issues 'Genuineness Certificates' after getting verification reports from universities in India.

Kashmir: People living in fear, no democracy in J-K: Azad

Jammu, Sep 25 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday said there is no democracy in Jammu and Kashmir and people are living in fear after the Centre scrapped the state's special status on August 5.

Azad was talking to the media as he concluded his six-day tour of the state.

India: TB increased by 16% in 2018, 3rd highest HIV country in world

New Delhi, Sep 25 (PTI) India witnessed a 16 per cent increase in the number of tuberculosis cases reported in 2018 against the previous year's figure of 18 lakh, according to an official report released on Wednesday.

According to the 'India TB Report 2019', of the total notifications, 25 per cent (5.4 lakh) cases were reported from the private sector, a 40 per cent increase from last year.

This indicates an increased engagement with private sector providers and patients seeking care from them.

Indian PM Modi hails first UAE astronaut in space

New Delhi, Sep 25 (PTI) As the first astronaut from UAE lifted off into space, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India takes inspiration from it for its human space programme.

Hazzaa al-Mansoori became the first astronaut from the UAE to fly to the International Space Station on Wednesday.

"Very happy to learn of the successful start to what will surely be a fabulous journey into outer space by our brother Hazza. I laud the vision of Sheikh @MohamedBinZayed! Congratulations UAE!" Modi, who is in New York, tweeted.

India 'regret' UK's Labour Party resolution for international intervention on Kashmir

New Delhi, Sep 25 (PTI) India on Wednesday slammed the UK's Labour Party after it passed a resolution calling for international intervention on the Kashmir issue.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar described the Labour Party's move as an attempt at "pandering to vote-bank interests".

There is no question of engaging with the Labour Party or its representatives on this issue, he said.
