Don't send migrants back to unsafe countries: Pope Francis

25 Oct 2021; MEMO: Pope Francis on Sunday urged countries not to send migrants back to insecure countries such as Libya, where he said many suffer violent and inhumane conditions similar to those in concentration camps.

The pope's appeal at his Sunday blessing came as European Union leaders are struggling to overcome their differences on how to handle immigrants, an issue that feeds support for nationalist and populist groups across the EU.

UK Palestinians renew their commitment to the right of return

25 Oct 2021; MEMO: Palestinians in the UK renewed their dedication to the right of return, support for the Palestinian people and the preservation of national identity in an event in London yesterday.

Hundreds of people came together to take part in the first event organised by the Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFM) for over 18 months.

The participants expressed their support for Palestine, pride in their heritage, showcased the dabke, Palestinian food and clothes and highlight the country's traditions.

Israel detains 1,300 Palestinians in 3 months

25 Oct 2021; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces detained more than 1,282 Palestinians over the past three months, a joint report issued by a number of Palestinian rights groups said yesterday.

The report was issued by Addameer for Human Rights, the PLO's Commission for Prisoners and Freed Prisoners, the Palestinian Prisoners' Club and Wadi Al Hilwah Information Centre.

According to the rights groups, the report covered the period between July and September, noting that 525 detentions were carried out in Jerusalem alone.

Normalising ties with Israel a 'crime', says Morocco party

23 Oct 2021; MEMO: A Moroccan party has harshly criticised the normalisation of ties between Morocco and Israel, stressing that this will never bring stability or economic benefits, Arabi21.com reported on Friday.

"The normalisation of ties is a crime and betrayal of the Palestinian cause and the defenceless occupied people, many of them were killed or forced out of their homes, or had their homes and holy sites destroyed," Spokesperson for the Justice and Charity party Fathallah Arsalan asserted.

Russia agrees not to hinder Israel's Syria strikes

23 Oct 2021; MEMO: During the meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi on Friday, the latter agreed to let Israel continue its strikes in Syria, Israeli media reported.

Housing Minister Ze'ev Elkin confirmed that the two officials agreed to continue implementing the deconfliction mechanism that works to prevent Israeli and Russian forces from clashing in Syria.

India: Farmers United Front SKM postpones its Lucknow Kisan Mahapanchayat (mega gathering) to Nov 22

New Delhi, Oct 22 (PTI) The Samyukt Kisan Morcha has decided to postponed its October 26 Kisan Mahapanchayat in Lucknow due to adverse weather conditions and the ongoing harvest season.

After the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed, the SKM announced a Kisan Mahapanchayat to be organised in Lucknow on October 26.

India: NPP demands restoration of statehood and democracy in J-K

Jammu, Oct 23 (PTI) Dozens of National Panthers Party (NPP) activists on Saturday staged a demonstration here in support of their demand for the restoration of statehood and democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.

The demonstration was led by NPP chairman and former minister Harsh Dev Singh and coincided with the three-day visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to J-K.3.

We have assembled here to reiterate our demand of restoration of statehood and democracy to J-K, Singh told reporters.
