Russian court dismisses appeal of jailed former U.S. Marine Trevor Reed

April 12 (Reuters) - A Moscow court declined on Tuesday to rule on an appeal from a jailed former U.S. marine, who is seeking to overturn a nine-year sentence for an attack on two Russian police officers which he denies.

Trevor Reed, 30, from Texas, is serving out his term after being convicted in 2019 of endangering the lives of two police officers while drunk on a visit to Moscow. The United States has called his trial a "theatre of the absurd".

Russia: Putin finishes talks with Nehammer in Novo-Ogaryovo — Kremlin spokesman

MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/: Russian President Vladimir Putin and visiting Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer have finished their talks at the Russian president’s residence in Novo-Ogaryovo, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told TASS on Monday.

"Yes, the meeting is over," he said. He did not say however how long the talks lasted.

It was the first contact between the two leaders after Nehammer took office late in 2021. Apart from that, Nehammer’s visit was the first visit by an EU leader to Russia since the launch of the special military operation in Ukraine.

Seizure of Russian diplomatic property may have effects for both parties, ambassador warns

MOSCOW, April 11./TASS/: The seizure of Russian diplomatic property in Poland may prompt a ‘long trail’ of consequences for both sides, Russian Ambassador in Warsaw Sergey Andreyev warned on Monday.

"This should be properly considered, since it is clear that when one of the parties violates the law this way, this entails certain consequences, decisions for the other side," the Russia diplomat told Channel One TV channel.

Russian regions bordering Ukraine step up security

April 11 (Reuters) - Authorities in four Russian regions bordering Ukraine and in Russian-controlled Crimea announced they were stepping up security measures on Monday over what they said were "possible provocations" from the Ukrainian side.

Moscow, which sent thousands of troops into Ukraine in what it calls a "special military operation", has accused Ukraine of targeting its border regions, including by striking a fuel depot in the city of Belgorod earlier this month.

Russian developers launch service for channels transfer from YouTube to VKontakte

Weekly number of coronavirus cases in Russia below 100,000 first since June 2021

MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/: The weekly number of coronavirus cases in Russia has decreased to below 100,000 for the first time since June 2021, according to TASS estimates based on data from the anti-coronavirus crisis center.

The crisis center recorded a total of 99,194 cases between April 4 and April 10 in the country, a 26% drop from the previous week.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Russia grew by 13,056 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infected to 17,996,060, the federal anti-coronavirus crisis center reported.

Russian air defense forces shoot down three Ukrainian drones — Defense Ministry

MOSCOW, April 9. /TASS/: Russia’s air defense forces have brought down three Ukrainian drones, including a Bayraktar, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Saturday.

"The Russian air defense has shot down three Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles. Of those, two were shot down outside Mariupol and Kalininskoe, and another one, Bayraktar TB2, near Sakhnovschina, Kharkov region," he said.
