TRIPOLI, Apr 14 (NNN-XINHUA) – The UN-backed Libyan government, said that, its forces took four more cities from the rival east-based army.

“Our brave forces took complete control of Al-Ajaylat, Aljmail, Riqdalin, and Zolton, and are now chasing the fleeing terrorist militias,” said Mohamed Gonono, spokesman of the UN-backed government forces.

Earlier in the day, Gonono announced the takeover of the northwestern cities of Sabratha and Surman from the east-based army, which had been in control of both coastal cities since Apr, 2019.

TRIPOLI, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The forces of the UN-backed government of Libya on Thursday accused the rival eastern-based army of attacking a hospital in the capital Tripoli treating COVID-19 patients for the second time in a week.

"Commander of eastern-based army launched a Grad missile attack on medicines stores of Al-Khadra General Hospital that contain equipment to protect against the coronavirus," the UN-backed government's forces said in a statement.

06 April 2020; MEMO: Former Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril died in the Egyptian capital Cairo from COVID-19 at the age of 68, a Libyan source said.

“Jibril actually died on Saturday late night, days after his infection with the novel coronavirus,” the source told Xinhua news agency yesterday.

The late Libyan official, whose death was officially announced on Sunday, spent ten days in isolation in a hospital in Cairo before his death, according to the source.

TRIPOLI, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The east-based army of Libya on Sunday said it killed 41 troops of the UN-backed government's forces in the south of capital Tripoli, as the armed conflict between the two continues.

The east-based army's information office also posted images of bodies in battlefields, saying they belong to the UN-backed government's forces.

Earlier on Sunday, the east-based army said it shot down three Turkey-made drones belonging to the UN-backed government's forces near the city of Misurata, some 200 km east of Tripoli.

TRIPOLI, April 4 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Saturday called on the Libyan rival parties to end the ongoing armed conflict in the country.

"Today marks one year since the forces of Libyan National Army Commander Khalifa Haftar launched their offensive to seize Tripoli, Libya's capital," the UNSMIL said in a statement.

"What resulted is a needless conflict that shattered the hopes of many Libyans for a peaceful political transition," it added.

The forces of the internationally-recognised Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) shot down three Sukhoi fighters belonging to Haftar’s forces on Friday, reported Anadolu Agency.

04 April 2020; MEMO: According to Anadolu Agency, the GNA forces also destroyed several vehicles and heavy weapons, during the operation that was launched about a week ago.

The sources revealed that three Sukhoi-22 warplanes were shot down.

TRIPOLI, April 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Libya’s UN-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) said Friday that its forces killed 20 militia members loyal to renegade Gen. Khalifa Haftar in Sirte.

The militia members were killed in an airstrike, Mustafa al-Mujie, the spokesman for the GNA-led Burkan Al-Ghadab (Volcano of Rage) Operation, told Anadolu Agency.

TRIPOLI, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) said on Thursday that the shutdown of oil exports in the country's eastern regions has caused losses of nearly 3.9 billion U.S. dollars so far.

"The forced and illegal restriction of production has resulted in financial losses exceeding 3,893,213,466 USD since January 17, 2020. This means the Libyan economy and financial reserves are getting weaker every day due to the blockade. Total oil production inside Libya is down to 92,731 barrels a day, as of April 1, 2020," the state oil company said in a statement.
