UAE’s Saif Bin Zayed Meets Singapore’s Senior Minister

DUBAI, Jan 24 (NNN-WAM) – Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), met with Teo Chee Hen, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security of the Republic of Singapore.

The Singaporean official is currently visiting the UAE, to take part in his country’s celebrations of the National Day, at Expo 2020 Dubai.

UAE blocks missiles as Yemen's Houthis attack region's business hub

DUBAI, Jan 24 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates, the tourism and commercial hub of the Gulf region, on Monday said it had foiled a second missile attack by Yemen's Iranian-aligned Houthi movement group, which last week hit a fuel depot in Abu Dhabi, killing three people.

The Houthis, battling a Saudi-led coalition that includes the UAE, have said they aim to punish the UAE for backing militias that are blocking their attempts to capture oil-producing regions in Yemen.

UAE intercepts 2 ballistic missiles over Abu Dhabi

Dubai, Jan 24 (AP) The United Arab Emirates intercepted two ballistic missiles targeting Abu Dhabi early Monday, its state-run news agency reported, the latest attack to target the Emirati capital.

The attack on Abu Dhabi, after another last week killed three people and wounded six, further escalates tensions across the Persian Gulf as Yemen's yearslong civil war grinds on.

US detains smuggling ship, UK seizes drugs in Mideast waters

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The U.S. Navy announced Sunday it seized a boat in the Gulf of Oman carrying fertilizer used to make explosives that was caught last year smuggling weapons to Yemen. The British royal navy said it confiscated 1,041 kilograms (2,295 pounds) of illegal drugs in the same waters.

The interdictions were just the latest in the volatile waters of the Persian Gulf as American and British authorities step up seizures of contraband during the grinding conflict in Yemen and ongoing drug trafficking in the region.

UAE bans flying of recreational drones after fatal attack

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates has banned the flying of drones in the country for recreation after Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed a fatal drone attack on an oil facility and major airport in the country.

As of Saturday, drone hobbyists and other operators of light electric sports aircraft face “legal liabilities” if caught flying the objects, the Interior Ministry said, adding it may grant exemptions to businesses seeking to film.

UAE envoy: Yemen’s Houthis used missiles in Abu Dhabi attack

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Yemen’s rebels used cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones in an attack on Abu Dhabi this week that killed three people and set off fires at a fuel depot and an international airport, the Emirati ambassador to the United States said Wednesday.

The remarks by Ambassador Yousef Al-Otaiba marked an official acknowledgement that missiles — and not just drones — were used in Monday’s attack, claimed by the Iran-backed Houthis.

Bennett offers 'security, intelligence' support to UAE

19 Jan 2022; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett condemned on Tuesday the Houthi attack on Abu Dhabi that took place on Monday and offered "security and intelligence" support.

In a letter to Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed, Bennett stated that the proposed Israeli "security and intelligence support" aimed to protect the emirate against future attacks.

Bennett also said that he had "ordered the Israeli security establishment to provide their counterparts in the UAE with any assistance."
