China securities regulator says will implement Sino-U.S. audit deal

BEIJING/SHANGHAI, Sept 2 (Reuters) - China will implement an audit agreement with the United States announced last week and will strengthen communication with foreign investors, a senior Chinese securities regulatory official said on Friday.

Fang Xinghai, vice chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), also told a forum that China would expand mutual access between mainland and Hong Kong, and would support the city's role as a global listing venue.

China locks down 21 million in Chengdu in COVID-19 outbreak

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese authorities have locked down Chengdu, a southwestern city of 21 million people, following a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Residents have been ordered to stay home, and about 70% of the flights have been suspended to and from the city, which is a major transit hub in Sichuan province and a governmental and economic center.

The start of the new school term has been delayed, although public transport continues to operate and citizens are permitted to leave the city if they can show a special need.

China demands US drop tech export curbs after Nvidia warning

BEIJING (AP) — The Chinese government on Thursday called on Washington to repeal its technology export curbs after California-based chip designer Nvidia said a new product might be delayed and some work might be moved out of China.

Arizona governor arrives in Taiwan — report

China sets October 16 date for its Communist Party congress

The date was announced at a meeting in Beijing of the Politburo of the party’s Central Committee, the official news agency said. Large-scale preparatory work for the event is underway already.

Press salon discusses U.S. human rights violations in the Middle East

BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Some 70 journalists of Chinese and foreign media outlets from a dozen of countries and regions, joined by several Chinese scholars, attended here a press salon Monday to discuss human rights violations in the Middle East by the United States.

The press salon was hosted by the All-China Journalists Association, following a recently released China Society for Human Rights Studies report, which reveals a series of crimes committed by the United States in the Middle East and surrounding areas that seriously violated international law.
