China: PIA to launch weekly flights on Islamabad-Chengdu route from July 6

BEIJING, Jun 16 (APP): Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will operate its weekly commercial passenger flights between Islamabad and Chengdu, the capital of China’s Sichuan province from July 6.

In this regard, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has accorded a formal approval to PIA to operate its flights on Islamabad-Chengdu route in addition to Islamabad-Xi’an section, well informed sources told APP here on Thursday.

Sino-Pak media outlets to join hands to project CPEC development: Wang Wenbin

Asian stocks mixed ahead of Fed rate hike decision

BEIJING (AP) — Asian stock markets were mixed Wednesday ahead of a Federal Reserve decision on how sharply to raise interest rates to cool U.S. inflation.

Shanghai and Hong Kong advanced. Tokyo and Sydney declined. Oil prices edged higher.

Wall Street’s benchmark S&P 500 index lost 0.4% on Tuesday.

Traders expect the Fed rate hike to be three-quarters of a percentage point, or triple the usual margin. They worry aggressive action to cool inflation that is running at a four-decade high might tip the biggest global economy into recession.

China aims to build climate-resilient society by 2035

BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua/APP): China has detailed measures to boost its climate change monitoring and risk prevention capabilities, marking a significant step forward in the country’s efforts to enhance its climate resilience.


The country will seek to basically build a climate-resilient society by 2035, with significant improvements in its ability to adapt to climate change, according to the national climate change adaptation strategy 2035, jointly released by 17 departments including the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

China's FAST telescope detects weird repeating fast radio burst

BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Scientists have found a highly active, repeating Fast Radio Burst (FRB), only the second example of its kind, which is hinting at the evolutionary picture of those mysterious cosmic events.

FRBs are the brightest millisecond-duration astronomical transients in radio bands with yet unknown origins. Less than five percent of them ever detected have been seen to repeat and only a few are persistently active.

10 killed, 3 missing in central China flooding

BEIJING (AP) — At least 10 people have been killed and three are missing in flooding in the central Chinese province of Hunan, while a landslide buried parts of a village in the southern Guangxi region, state media reported.

Storms have pummeled Hunan since the beginning of the month, with some monitoring stations reporting historic levels of rainfall, the Xinhua News Agency said late Wednesday.
