Indian Army launches community radio station in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 4 (PTI) The Army on Thursday launched the first-of-its-kind community radio station in north Kashmir's Sopore town, an official said.

With the tagline "Radio Chinar 90.4, Har Dil Ki Dhadkan", the radio station was inaugurated by General officer Commanding (GoC) Chinar Corps Lt Gen B S Rana.

The reach of the community radio station will be Sopore, Bandipora and Baramulla districts, the Army official said.

India: Army officer shoots himself dead in J-K

Srinagar, Mar 3 (PTI) An Army officer allegedly shot himself dead at an Army depot in Khonmoh area of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said here.

Lieutenant Colonel Sudeep Bhagat, who was posted at the depot, died on the spot, they said.

It was not immediately known why the officer took such an extreme step.

India: Farooq Abdullah gets first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

Srinagar, Mar 2 (PTI) National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, who is Lok Sabha member from Srinagar, on Tuesday got his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine at a hospital here, officials said.

Abdullah, 85, was given the first dose of the vaccine at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, the officials said.

Omar Abdullah, son of the NC president, took to Twitter to thank the doctors and other staff at the hospital for administering the vaccine to his father.

India: Schools in Kashmir open after one year

Srinagar, Mar 1 (PTI) Schools in Kashmir reopened on Monday after remaining closed for nearly one year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The students of classes 9 to 12 attended school for the first time since March 9, 2020.

Only those students were allowed to attend school who had been granted permission in writing by their parents.

Most private schools had sought no objection certificates from parents, absolving the school management of any blame in case of any health issue arising due to conduct of physical classes.

India: Court rejects bail plea of PDP leader Waheed Parra

Srinagar, Feb 23 (PTI) A special court rejected the bail application of PDP leader Waheed Parra on Tuesday, saying the charges against him were "grave, serious and heinous in nature" and that a preliminary analysis of evidence collected so far show he was aiding militancy in Jammu and Kashmir in the garb of a politician.

India: Train services resume in Kashmir Valley after 11 months

New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) Train services resumed in the Kashmir Valley on Monday after remaining suspended for around 11 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said this will enhance ease of movement and provide a big boost to the tourism sector.

"Railways to resume train operations in Kashmir Valley on Banihal-Baramulla section from 22nd February, with two services operating initially," Goyal tweeted.

Earlier, the Railways said that no date has yet been fixed for resumption of all passenger train operations.

India: Mehbooba Mufti re-elected as PDP president

Srinagar, Feb 22 (PTI) Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was on Monday unanimously re-elected as president of the PDP for a three-year term.

Mufti's name was proposed by senior leader Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura and seconded by Khurshid Alam, a party spokesperson said after the election.

India: 3 Kashmiris killed by Indian Sec Forces in Budgam and Shopian districts of Indian Administered Kashmir

Srinagar, 19 Feb  2021: 3 unidentified Kashmiris were killed on Friday by Indian security forces in Budgam and Shopian districts of the Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said. A policeman too was killed in the gunfight.
