Family of Chinese immigrant killed by U.S. police takes legal action

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The family of a Chinese immigrant who was killed by U.S. police during a narcotics-related search operation is taking legal action against the police department of the city of Chino in California, said the attorneys for the family on Wednesday.

Li Xi Wang, 49, was fatally shot by police as he was seen standing behind a door at a home in Chino on July 3, according to the body-worn camera video footage released by Chino police.

Officials say California deputy lied about being shot

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles County deputy lied when he said he was shot in the shoulder while standing in a sheriff’s station parking lot last week and will face a criminal investigation, authorities said.

“The reported sniper assault was fabricated” by Deputy Angel Reinosa, Assistant Sheriff Robin Limon said at a news conference late Saturday.

4 shot in Los Angeles, in America's 265th mass shooting

Four people have been shot in San Julian Park in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon. A social worker and a security guard who were in the park were also struck by gunfire. Two shooters, including a woman, are still at large.

According to Los Angeles Times, gunfire erupted shortly after noon in San Julian Park at 5th and San Julian streets, where homeless people often congregate, according to the LAPD . The park is one block east of the Police Department’s Central Division station.

Jet catches fire in Northern California; 10 aboard unhurt

OROVILLE, Calif. (AP) — All 10 people aboard a small jet escaped injury Wednesday after the aircraft aborted its takeoff at a small Northern California airport, went off the runway and burst into flames, officials said.

The pilot of the twin-engine Cessna Citation jet aborted its takeoff at Oroville Municipal Airport for unknown reasons shortly before noon, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.

The plane was carrying two pilots and eight passengers, and “all were accounted for, no injuries,” said Joe Deal, Oroville’s fire and police chief.

Shooter at large after LA deputy shot at sheriff's station

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Investigators believe a gunshot that wounded a deputy outside a Los Angeles County sheriff’s station on Wednesday was fired from a nearby building complex that provides housing to people with mental health issues, authorities said.

Deputy Angel Reinosa, 21, was hit while heading to his car in the employee parking lot of the Lancaster station shortly before 3 p.m., Capt. Todd Weber said.

“He is doing great, thankfully,” Weber said. “The wound was minor and he’s been treated and he’s doing well, in high spirits.” No surgery was needed, he added.

Detained immigrants sue over conditions, medical care

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Immigrants held in U.S. detention facilities filed a lawsuit Monday decrying what they called shoddy medical care and a failure by authorities to provide accommodations for disabilities.

In the suit filed by disability and civil rights advocates in U.S. District Court, immigrants said they’re placed in isolation as punishment and denied recommended medical treatment and surgery. Some said they’ve been denied wheelchairs and a deaf detainee who communicates in American Sign Language said he has not been provided an interpreter.

3 U.S. states, city join California in lawsuit against Trump's new immigration policy
