Japan bans entry of foreign visitors as omicron spreads

TOKYO (AP) — Japan announced Monday it will suspend entry of all foreign visitors from around the world as a new coronavirus variant spreads.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the measure will take effect Tuesday.

The decision means Japan will restore border controls that it eased earlier this month for short-term business visitors, foreign students and workers.

Sino-Pakistan Institute of Electric Power unveiled

BEIJING, Nov 28 (APP): The online opening ceremony of Sino-Pakistan Silk Road Institute of Electric Power was held simultaneously on Wednesday at Zhengzhou Electric Power College (ZEPC), China and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, Pakistan.


This Institute of Electric Power aims to strengthen the communications and researches in Electric power technology between ZEPC and UET, Lahore, China Economic Net (CEN) reported.

Tourism Malaysia Gears Up To Woo Indonesian Travellers

JAKARTA, Nov 28 (NNN-Bernama) — Tourism Malaysia welcomes fully vaccinated Indonesian travellers to Langkawi island, after nearly two years of border closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ahead of the Christmas and New Year holiday travellers can spend quality time with family and friends in the island without the need to undergo 14-day mandatory quarantine.

Kyrgyzstan parliamentary election set to bolster president

BISHKEK, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Allies of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov appeared set to win Sunday's parliamentary election by a landslide, according to early figures, further cementing his grip on the Central Asian nation with close ties to Russia and China.

A Russian military airbase located in Kyrgyzstan allows Moscow to project power throughout the broader region and to locations such as Afghanistan.

Malaysian PM to make inaugural visit to Singapore, as Vaccinated Travel Lane takes effect

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob will make an official visit to Singapore on Monday, Malaysia's Foreign Ministry said Sunday.

The visit at the invitation of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be Ismail Sabri's first visit to the neighboring country since he assumed office in August.

The visit comes with the commencement of the air and land Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) between Malaysia and Singapore beginning on Monday, the ministry said in a statement.

North China city reports 19 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases

HOHHOT, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The border city of Manzhouli, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, reported 19 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases from 12 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, local authorities said.

Among them, two were registered as asymptomatic cases previously. The city also reported an asymptomatic case during the period, officials with the municipal government told a press conference.

Manzhouli launched city-wide nucleic acid testing at 8 a.m. Sunday and aims to complete it by 8 a.m. Monday.

Taiwan sends jets after 27 Chinese planes enter buffer zone

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Taiwan said 27 Chinese aircraft entered its air defense buffer zone on Sunday, the latest in a long series of incursions as part of Beijing’s pressure on the self-ruled island.

The Defense Ministry said Taiwan scrambled combat aircraft to “warn” the Chinese planes to leave. It also deployed missile systems to monitor them.

Sunday’s incursion included 18 fighter jets and five H-6 bombers, as well as a Y-20 aerial refueling aircraft, according to Taiwan’s Defense Ministry.

Sino-Pakistan coop in textile industry untapped: Zhang Xian

Frenchman known for mocking government denied entry in Thailand

BANGKOK, Nov 27 (Reuters) - A French national who is known for mocking the Thai government was denied reentry to Thailand on Saturday for being "a danger to society," his lawyer said on Saturday.

Yan Marchal, who has lived in Thailand for nearly 20 years, arrived in Thailand on Saturday morning, but immigration handed him a notice barring him entry citing behaviour that was a danger to society, Nadthasiri Bergman told Reuters.

The notice did not give further details.

A government spokesman did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.

China: Beijing launches first commercial trial of self-driving vehicle

BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese capital of Beijing launched its first commercial trial of autonomous driving and rolled out relevant management policies earlier this week, according to the city's high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone office.

The cumulative mileage of autonomous driving tests has reached nearly 3 million km since April this year with the management policy innovation achieving good results, said Kong Lei, head of the office, adding that the conditions to carry out the commercial trial have been met.
