Death toll triples to more than 300 in recent China flooding

BEIJING (AP) — More than 300 people died in recent flooding in central China, authorities said Monday, three times the previously announced toll.

The Henan provincial government said 302 people died and 50 remain missing. The vast majority of the victims were in Zhengzhou, the provincial capital, where 292 died and 47 are missing. Ten others died in three other cities, officials said at a news conference in Zhengzhou.

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Aug 1 (NNN-Bernama) — Senior Minister of Foreign Affairs (Security Cluster) Hishammuddin Hussein is scheduled to lead the Malaysian delegation to the 54th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (54th AMM) and related meetings, from tomorrow (Aug 2) until Aug 7. 

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) said in a statement that all the meetings via video conference will be hosted by Brunei Darussalam, in its role as ASEAN Chair for 2021. 

Cambodia receives another batch of China-aided Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- A plane carrying a new batch of China-donated Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine touched down in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, on Sunday, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said.

A new batch of vaccine arrived on Sunday morning, he said during the launch of a vaccination drive for the adolescent group aged from 12 to 17.

Hun Sen said China is the key vaccine supplier to Cambodia and expressed his sincere thanks to China for donating and selling vaccines to the Southeast Asian nation regularly and timely.

Chinese producers test vaccines against Delta variant saying current vaccines still effective

BEIJING, July 31 (APP): Chinese vaccine producers are conducting tests against Delta variant on their products, companies officials said during the Business Dialogue on Vaccine Cooperation, hosted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Yang Xiaoming, Chairman of Sinopharm China National Biotec Group, a Sinopharm subsidiary, told the Global Times that the company is conducting neutralization tests on the Delta variant with serum of vaccine recipients and is ramping up the development of vaccines targeting the four dominating variants: Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta.
