India: BJP gives up confrontation with Nitish

Patna, Feb 11 (PTI) The BJP in Bihar, which has been on a collision course with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) for some time, on Friday asserted that the coalition government will complete its full five-year term.

State minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, a national spokesman of the party, made the averment here at a press conference he addressed jointly with Sanjay Jaiswal, the Bihar BJP president.

"The government will complete its five years in power without any ifs or buts ( bina kintu parantu ke'), said Hussain.

India: In presence of Lalu, RJD calls for anti-BJP front

Patna, Feb 10 (PTI) Lalu Prasad's RJD on Thursday highlighted the need for a "political front" to take on the BJP, which it accused of pursuing a divisive agenda and remaining oblivious to the need for social and economic progress.

A resolution to the effect was passed here by the party at the meeting of its national executive which took place in presence of Prasad, the founding president, who had flown down from Delhi despite old age and poor health.

India: Bihar BJP chief launches fresh attack on Nitish

Patna, Feb 7 (PTI) The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar came under fresh attack on Monday from state BJP president Sanjay Jaiswal whose party seems annoyed with junior ally JD(U)'s shrill demands for special assistance from the Centre.

Jaiswal, who is also the Lok Sabha member from Pashchim Champaran, came out with a lengthy Facebook post asserting that Bihar was already getting more central help than states like Maharashtra and West Bengal, which were almost of the same demographic size.

India: Bihar Rail Exam agitation: Bandh hits normal life

Patna, Jan 28 (PTI) Normal life in Bihar was on Friday affected by a dawn to dusk `bandh' called by students' bodies in protest against anomalies in the format of exams conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board and police high handedness against protesting students.

Opposition parties like the RJD, the Left and the Congress extended their support to the bandh, took active part in many places and expressed satisfaction over its "success" .

India: Asoka controversy: Bihar BJP chief lodges FIR

Patna, Jan 13 (PTI) Bihar BJP president Sanjay Jaiswal on Thursday lodged an FIR against Sahitya Akademi Award winner Daya Prasad Sinha who is in the eye of a storm over controversial remarks about Emperor Asoka.

Jaiswal lodged the FIR at Kotwali police station here.

He was accompanied by a number of senior party functionaries.

India: Bihar CM Nitish tests positive for COVID 19

Patna, Jan 10 (PTI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has tested positive for COVID 19 and is in home isolation, his office said on Monday.

The chief minister's office shared the information on its Twitter handle, adding that the septuagenarian has urged people of the state to follow all measures which are part of the Covid protocol.

India: Naxal terrorists kill four in Bihar accusing them of being police

Gaya (Bihar), Nov 14 (PTI) Four persons of a family, including two women, were killed by Maoists who blew up their house in a remote village of this district and hung them from a cattle shed in the courtyard, a top police officer said.

According to ADG, Law and Order, the incident took place in Dumariya police station area, close to the Bihar-Jharkhand area, where members of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) attacked the house of Saryu Singh Bhokta late Saturday night.

India: Lalu blames "chhutbhaiya" leaders for spat with Congress

Patna, Oct 26 (PTI) After riding roughshod over the Congress, his junior alliance partner in Bihar, RJD president Lalu Prasad on Tuesday sought to conceal his iron fist in velvet gloves, saying he still considers the grand old party "the national alternative".

Prasad, who has returned to his home turf of Bihar after three years, said the country needs the Congress, and underscored nobody has "helped" the national party as much as himself, blaming the recent bad blood on "small time leaders" (chhutbhaiya neta).
