Patna, Nov 11 (PTI) An avid cricketer whose career never really took off, a political greenhorn who got power on a silver platter but failed to keep it, a scion of Bihar's most powerful family who could not get past the 9th grade.

That was Tejashwi Yadav until the 2020 assembly polls marked the coming of age of a politician who valiantly went down fighting an army of battle-hardened veterans.

India: Cong alleges foul play in counting for Bihar polls

New Delhi, Nov 10 (PTI) The Congress on Tuesday alleged foul play in the counting for the Bihar assembly polls and accused the ruling NDA of "misusing power".

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, who is camping in Bihar for the past many days, alleged that party candidates in Kishanganj and Sakra had won but were not given victory certificates.

He claimed that the Congress candidate in Kishanganj had won by 1,266 votes and the BJP candidate had gone home.

India: Bihar readies for D-day amid predictions of change

Patna, Nov 9 (PTI) Bihar might be on the cusp of a major generational shift in politics as it braced for Tuesday's counting of votes for the assembly election, with most pollsters predicting a landslide for the five-party Grand Alliance led by the young RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Counting will be taken up at 55 centres across 38 districts where the outcome will decide the fate of the Nitish Kumar government that has helmed the state for a decade and half.

India: Onions thrown towards Nitish at poll rally in Madhubani

Madhubani, Nov 3 (PTI) Onions were flung towards Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by some protestors while he was addressing a public meeting in Madhubani for the third phase of the assembly elections.

Kumar was talking on employment issue when onions came flying at him at the rally in support of his party nominee Sudhanshu Shekhar at Gangaur village ground in Harlakhi assembly constituency, but it missed the target.

The onions thrown from a distance fell before reaching the stage.

India: Re-release of biopic on Modi does not attract poll code: EC

New Delhi, Oct 31 (PTI) The "re-release" of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not attract provisions of the model code of conduct, the Election Commission has concluded.

Responding to a recent complaint by a private citizen that the reported release of the biopic in cinema halls during the Bihar assembly polls was in violation of the poll code, the poll panel concluded "re-release" did not attract provisions of the model code in this matter, sources said on Saturday.

India: Observers' no to repolling in 71 seats of Bihar assembly

Patna, Oct 30 (PTI) Observers have not recommended repolling in any of the 71 seats that went to polls in the first phase of the Bihar assembly elections on October 28, sources in the Election Commission said on Friday.

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) H R Srinivas, in his report based on inputs provided by returning officers and district election officers, has also concluded that repolling was not required in any of the seats, they said.

India: Nitish supports population-proportionate reservation

Valmiki Nagar (Bihar), Oct 29 (PTI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Thursday backed population-based reservation for castes, but said it can only be implemented after census data is available.

Addressing a poll rally here, he also attacked the RJD over its record on law and order, and ridiculed Tejashwi Yadavs promise of 10 lakh jobs.

He repeatedly told the people that his government has worked for the development of Bihar with the cooperation of the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India: NDA is national destruction alliance : Brinda Karat

Patna, Oct 27 (PTI) Senior CPI-M leader Brinda Karat Tuesday termed the BJP-led NDA as the national destruction alliance and said that migrant workers from Bihar have been the worst victims of its policies.

Addressing a press conference here, Karat asserted that the opposition Grand Alliance in Bihar, which her party joined less than two months ago, is headed for a landslide win in the state assembly polls whose first phase is slated for Wednesday.
