26 bodies found as search ends at Cambodian hotel fire site

POIPET, Cambodia (AP) — The search for bodies in the wreckage of a burned-out casino hotel complex in western Cambodia has concluded with 26 people confirmed dead, a senior official said late Friday.

Banteay Meanchey province Governor Um Reatrey told The Associated Press by phone that after 39 hours of rescue and search operations, there were also 57 injured survivors from the Wednesday night fire at the Grand Diamond City casino and hotel in the town of Poipet.

At least 19 dead as fire engulfs hotel in NW Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least 19 people were killed in a massive fire that engulfed a hotel in northwest Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey province, officials said late on Thursday.

"In a preliminary report, 19 people were pronounced dead in the blaze, and some more victims are probably still missing in the charred building, as search operation is still going on," Sek Sokhom, director of the Banteay Meanchey provincial information department, told Xinhua.

Massive fire at Cambodia hotel casino kills at least 19

POIPET, Cambodia (AP) — A massive fire at a Cambodian hotel casino Thursday injured over 60 people and killed at least 19 — a number that officials warned would rise after the search for bodies resumes Friday.

The blaze, which started around midnight Wednesday, was put out over 12 hours later at 2 p.m. Thursday, said Sek Sokhom, head of Banteay Meanchey province’s information department. He said more than 60 people were injured and the death toll was expected to rise once rescuers are able to access victims who were believed to still be under debris or in locked rooms.

10 Rare Mekong River Dolphins Recorded Dead In Cambodia In 2022: Conservationist Group

PHNOM PENH, Dec 24 (NNN-AKP) – Ten critically endangered Mekong River dolphins were recorded dead in Cambodia in 2022, a conservationist group said.

The latest death was an adult female of 193 cm long, aged between seven and 10 years old, weighing about 85 kg, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-Cambodia said, in a press release yesterday, adding that, the Irrawaddy dolphin’s carcass was discovered floating in the Mekong River, in Kratie province on Thursday by a local citizen.

World Bank Lends 274 Million USD To Cambodia To Support Economic Recovery, Long-Term Resilience

China-aided cataract blindness elimination project launches in Cambodia

PREY VENG, Cambodia, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A China-aided cataract blindness elimination project was launched on Tuesday, aiming at helping eliminate cataract blindness in southeastern Cambodia's Prey Veng province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Yim Chhay Ly expressed his sincere thanks to China's GX Foundation for funding the project, which would provide free eye check-ups, treatment and surgery for all cataract patients in the province.
