Cong to hold press conferences in 35 cities over next 2 days on 'Democracy Dis'qualified'

New Delhi, Mar 27 (PTI) Upping the ante over Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from Lok Sabha, the Congress will hold press conferences in 35 cities over the next two days on 'Democracy Dis'Qualified' while also highlighting other issues such as the Adani matter and the alleged "clean chit" to fugitives.

Gandhi was on Thursday sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his "why all thieves have Modi surname" remark. He was subsequently disqualified from Lok Sabha.

New Delhi, Mar 27 (PTI) Leaders of at least 18 opposition parties met at the residence of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge here on Monday and alleged that the BJP-led government is destroying democracy.

They also decided to continue with their campaign against the Narendra Modi government.

Among the parties that were represented at the meeting, which was followed by dinner, were the DMK, NCP, JD(U), BRS, CPI(M), CPI, AAP, MDMK, KC, TMC, RSP, RJD, NC, IUML, VCK, SP and JMM.

76 samples of new Covid variant XBB1.16 found in India: INSACOG data

New Delhi, Mar 18 (PTI) A total of 76 samples of COVID-19's XBB.1.16 variant have been found which might be behind the recent rise of cases in the country, according to INSACOG data.

The variant has been found across Karnataka (30), Maharashtra (29), Puducherry (7) Delhi (5), Telangana (2), Gujarat (1), Himachal Pradesh (1) and Odisha (1), the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) data showed.

India: Traffic affected near ITO, CBI headquarters due to AAP's protest against Sisodia's arrest

New Delhi, Feb 27 (PTI) Traffic was affected near the ITO intersection here on Monday as Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg was closed for vehicular movement in view of a protest by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The Delhi Police informed the commuters about it through its official Twitter handle.

"Traffic will remain affected on DDU Marg in the carriageway from Minto Road towards ITO and vice-versa due to special traffic arrangements. Commuters are advised to avoid this stretch," it tweeted.
