New Delhi, Dec 5 (PTI) Tents pitched on tractors, people busy chopping vegetables to get food ready, solar panels to charge mobile phones, medical camps and even hookahs -- once a thoroughfare teeming with traffic, Delhi's Tikri border resembles a 'pind' (village) now.

Living in this village are farmers who have come largely from neighbouring Punjab to demand a repeal of the Centre's three agriculture reform laws.

India: HC asks jail officials to shift Jamia student to guest house for exams

New Delhi, Dec 3 (PTI) The Delhi High Court Thursday directed the jail authorities to forthwith take Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) student Asif Iqbal Tanha, arrested in a case related to the northeast Delhi riots earlier this year, to a guest house to enable him to study and appear in examinations scheduled from Friday.

Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri also asked the jail superintendent to permit the accused to take studying material with him and provide him other teaching material, if required.

India: RBI projects 6.8 pc retail inflation in December quarter

Mumbai, Dec 4 (PTI) The Reserve Bank of India on Friday said retail inflation is likely to remain elevated and pegged it at 6.8 per cent for the third quarter of the current fiscal.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is of the view that inflation is likely to remain elevated, barring transient relief in the winter months from prices of perishables.

India: Farmers' protest: More routes connecting UP-Delhi closed

New Delhi, Dec 3 (PTI) Police on Thursday closed routes on two national highways connecting Ghaziabad to Delhi as farmers remained unyielding on their demand for scrapping the new farm laws and stayed put at the national capital's borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The protesting farmers had on Wednesday threatened to block other roads of Delhi if their demands were not met.

The local police has closed the routes on NH-9 and NH-24 from Ghaziabad to Delhi. On NH-1, both sides of the route have been closed near Shani Mandir, the Delhi Traffic Police tweeted.

Indian Union ministers meet farmers' groups to break deadlock

New Delhi, Dec 3 (PTI) Farmers' groups met three Union ministers on Thursday for fourth round of talks amid an ongoing protest seeking repeal of the new farm laws.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Railways, Commerce and Food Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Som Parkash, who is an MP from Punjab, are holding talks with the representatives of 35 farmers' unions at the Vigyan Bhawan in the national capital.

The government said that the meeting started in the afternoon and discussions are being held in a cordial atmosphere.

India condemns missile attack on Saudi oil facility

New Delhi, Dec 1 (PTI) India on Tuesday strongly condemned the missile attack targeting a facility of Aramco oil company in Saudi Arabia's Red Sea city of Jeddah last week.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said India stands in solidarity with the government and the people of Saudi Arabia against such attacks.

India: Ramdev supports Centre's new farm laws

Chandigarh, Dec 1 (PTI) Yoga guru Ramdev on Tuesday came out in support of the Centre's new farm laws being stiffly opposed by the farmers, but said the government should have initiated wider consultations with ryots before framing the legislations.

Ramdev called on Haryana's Home and Health Minister Anil Vij at his office here on Tuesday.

India: Shed arrogance, give justice to farmers: Rahul to govt

New Delhi, Dec 1 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday asked the government to wake up and shed "arrogance" to provide protesting farmers their rights.

Farmers, mostly from Punjab and Haryana, are holding protests at the Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur borders of the national capital against the Centre's new agri-marketing laws.

Taking to Twitter, Gandhi said everyone was indebted to the farmers for their hard work and this debt would be repaid only by giving them justice.

Indian Govt calls all-party meet to discuss COVID-19 situation

New Delhi, Nov 30 (PTI) The government has called an all-party meeting to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic situation on December 4 that will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sources said on Monday.

Floor leaders of all parties from both houses of parliament have been called for the meeting, which will be held virtually on Friday at 10.30 am, sources told PTI.

The Parliamentary Affairs Ministry is coordinating the meeting and has reached out to floor leaders of all parties, they said.
