India: Guj teen's gang-rape: 4th accused held

Jamnagar, Oct 5 (PTI) An absconding accused in the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Jamnagar in Gujarat was held on Monday, a day after three of his alleged accomplices were arrested, police said.

The girl was gang-raped by the four, one of whom was known to her, on September 28 and a police case was filed two days after the incident, after which three people, identified as Buddha Bhatia, Mayur Bhatia and Devkaran Gadhvi, were held.

India: Guj govt opposes Hardik's plea for relief in bail condition

Ahmedabad, Sep 23 (PTI) The Gujarat government has opposed Congress leader Hardik Patel's application filed in a sessions court here seeking temporary suspension of his bail condition that restricts him from leaving the state.

Patel, who is the working president of the Gujarat Congress unit, was arrested in January this year for failing to appear before the trial court in a 2015 sedition case.

India: Guj BJP blames Tablighis for initial coronavirus spread - not 'Namaste Trump'

Ahmedabad, Sep 21 (PTI) The ruling BJP on Monday said members of Tablighi Jamaat were responsible for the initial spread of coronavirus in Gujarat, evoking a sharp rebuke from the Congress which blamed 'Namaste Trump' event held here in February for the spurt in infections.

Both the parties traded barbs during a discussion on a resolution introduced by treasury benches in the Legislative Assembly to thank COVID warriors.

India: Gujarat minister, BJP MLA test positive for coronavirus

Ahmedabad, Sep 15 (PTI) A minister in the Gujarat government and a BJP MLA on Tuesday said they have tested positive for coronavirus.

In a tweet, Gujarat Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs minister Jayesh Radadiya said he has contracted the infection and is home quarantined.

"My coronavirus report is positive. I am currently home quarantined and my condition is stable. Those who have come in contact with me in the last one week should also get themselves tested," Radadiya said in a tweet.

India: Guj BJP chief tests coronavirus positive

Ahmedabad, Sep 9 (PTI) Gujarat BJP chief C R Paatil has tested coronavirus positive, a hospital in Gandhinagar where he is undergoing treatment said on Wednesday.

"Paatil is currently admitted to Apollo Hospitals and is undergoing treatment for COVID-19. He is currently stable and being taken care of by multidisciplinary team of specialists," the hospital said in a statement.

India: Harassed by in-laws, Guj woman kills self, two children

Dahod, Sep 9 (PTI) A 32-year-old woman allegedly threw her two children into a well before committing suicide due to harassment by her husband and in-laws at a village in Dahod district of Gujarat, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place in Nana Sarnaiya village, where Saraswati Damor allegedly threw her three-month-old son and five-year-old daughter into a well before jumping in herself on Tuesday, an official from Fatehpura police station said.

India: 12 cops found involved in power theft in Gujrat

Ahmedabad, Sep 1 (PTI) Twelve police personnel, including two assistant sub-inspectors, in Gujarat's Amreli district have been asked to vacate their official quarters after they were found to be allegedly involved in power theft, officials said.

In an order issued on Monday night, Amreli District Superintendent of Police Nirlipt Rai said despite being part of a disciplined force, these police personnel "indulged in a criminal and illegal act", and asked them to vacate their quarters in two days.

India: BJP MP, MLA test positive for coronavirus in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Aug 27 (PTI) Ahmedabad West BJP MP Kirit Solanki and the party's MLA from Surat, Harsh Sanghvi, announced on Thursday that they have contracted coronavirus.

While Solanki has isolated himself at home, Sanghvi has been admitted to a hospital.

"I had low fever and coughing from August 20 and had remained in isolation from that day. Today I got myself tested and was found to be COVID-19 positive," tweeted Solanki, a two-time MP.

India: Fine for not wearing mask raised to Rs 1,000 in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, Aug 10 (PTI) In a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19, the Gujarat government on Monday increased the fine for not wearing mask in public places to Rs 1,000 from the present Rs 500.

The decision came after the Gujarat High Court in its order last month asked the government to collect a minimum fine of Rs 1,000 from those found without mask in public places.

In the wake of the rising number of coronavirus cases in the state, the high court had observed that "masks are logically the best defense individuals have against COVID-19".

India: Ahmedabad COVID-19 hospital fire leaves 8 patients dead

Ahmedabad, Aug 6 (PTI) A blaze in the wee hours at a private hospital here has left eight COVID-19 patients dead, a fire brigade official said on Thursday.

The victims include five men and three women, who were being treated at the ICU ward of the COVID-19 designated Shrey Hospital in Navrangpura area of Ahmedabad, the official said.

Fire broke out around 3.30 am on the fourth floor of the four-storey hospital, he said.

Around 40 other COVID-19 patients at the facility were rescued and shifted to a civic hospital in the city, he said.
