Iran says corona cases top 180,000

TEHRAN, June 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) — More than 180,000 people have been infected in Iran’s coronavirus outbreak since it first emerged nearly four months ago, an official said.

As the figures were announced, President Hassan Rouhani called on Iranians to stick to guidelines aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19.

“If everyone follows the health instructions exactly, then all jobs can be reopened,” he said in remarks broadcast on state television.

US could reach 200,000 corona deaths in September, expert says

WASHINGTON, Jun 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The United States may see 200,000 deaths because of the coronavirus at some point in September, a leading expert said, while total US coronavirus cases surpassed 2 million on Wednesday as governments relax restrictions.

Ashish Jha, the head of Harvard’s Global Health Institute, said in an interview that without drastic action, the number of US deaths would march on.

Navy ship brings back 233 stranded Indians from Iran

Ahmedabad, Jun 11 (PTI) Under the Indian Navy's 'Samudra Setu' operation, naval ship 'INS Shardul' on Thursday brought back 233 Indians to Gujarat from Iran, where they were stranded due to travel restrictions in view of the coronavirus -induced lockdown.

The ship set sail from Bandar Abbas port of Iran on June 8 with these 233 Indians, mostly fishermen from Valsad district of the state, and arrived at Porbandar port on Thursday, said defence PRO for Gujarat, Puneet Chadha.

China reports 15 new coronavirus cases

Beijing, Jun 11 (PTI) China has reported 15 new coronavirus cases, including 11 confirmed imported infections, the health authority here said on Thursday.

According to the China National Health Commission (NHC), 11 new COVID-19 cases were reported in China on Wednesday and all of them were imported, including six in Shanghai, three in Guangdong, one in Tianjin and Fujian each.

No new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported on the Chinese mainland, according to a daily report issued by the NHC.

Delhi Heath Min will arrange 15,000 beds by Jun 20

New Delhi, Jun 10 (PTI) Delhi Health minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday said the city government will arrange 15,000 beds for COVID-19 patients by June 20 and asserted that preparations are being made to meet the projected healthcare infrastructure requirement.

He said the Delhi government is preparing for the "foreseeable situation of June 30", and for that, preparations are being made for COVID infrastructure in stadiums, banquet halls, and hotels.

India: 28 CRPF personnel posted in Kashmir test COVID positive

Srinagar, Jun 10 (PTI) As many as 28 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel posted in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, officials said.

They said the personnel were found infected during a contact-tracing exercise after the death of a 44-year-old coronavirus-infected constable on June 6.

The officials said they had collected samples of 75 personnel from the 90th battalion where the deceased constable, a nursing assistant, was posted.

Indonesia’s COVID-19 cases surpass 34,000

JAKARTA, June 10 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has surged past 34,000, with a total of 1,959 deaths.

According to Indonesia’s government spokesman on COVID-19, Achmad Yurianto, in the 24-hour period until noon today, 1,241 new positive cases and 36 deaths were reported.

“There are currently 34,316 positive cases while 14,242 patients are still under surveillance for COVID-19,” he said in his daily news conference broadcast on the official YouTube channel of the Indonesian Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

Malaysia: Self-discipline, SOP compliance will be key to free M’sia from COVID-19

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11  (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia recorded only two new COVID-19 cases yesterday, which is the lowest daily tally — a good sign indicating that the country is heading towards zero case and freedom from the pandemic soon.

However, it will all depend on the people’s ability to exercise self-control in complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP) as there is no more movement control and the country is in the recovery phase.

France to end state of health emergency on July 10

PARIS, June 11 (NNN-Xinhua) — The French government has decided to end the state of health emergency on July 10, two weeks ahead of the previously scheduled date, and expected to retain certain power to restrict freedom in the next months to contain the spread of coronavirus, French daily Le Monde reported.

“Given the positive development of the health situation at this stage, the government wishes to end the state of health emergency, which must remain an exceptional case,” le Monde quoted the prime minister’s office as saying.

UN General Assembly will be virtual for the first time due to Corona

UNITED NATIONS, June 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) — This year’s UN General Assembly will be held virtually for the first time in history because of the coronavirus pandemic, its president announced.

The meeting is still scheduled for Sept 22-29 but will be carried out with previously recorded speeches by world leaders, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, who is from Nigeria, said in a letter to UN member countries.
