Ireland’s PM returns to medical practice to help in coronavirus crisis

DUBLIN, April 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Ireland’s prime minister Leo Varadkar has re-registered as a medical practitioner and will work one shift a week to help out during the coronavirus crisis, his office said.

Varadkar worked as a doctor for seven years before leaving the profession to become a politician and was removed from the medical register in 2013.

First Afghan Doctor Dies From COVID-19 In Kabul

KABUL, Apr 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) – An Afghan physician, infected with the COVID-19, died from the virus on Monday, authorities confirmed.

“With deep regrets, we declare the death of Dr. Hanifullah Hanif, specialist physician, internal medicine, at the Amiri Medical Complex, due to the COVID-19,” the private Amiri hospital said, in a statement.

Monday’s fatality brought to 11 the number of national death toll, while the number of infected people have risen to 367, as of Monday evening, according to official tally.

China Reports No COVID-19 Deaths For First Time

BEIJING, Apr 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) – No COVID-19 deaths were reported in China today, Tuesday (Apr 7), the first time since it started publishing daily figures in Jan, the National Health Commission said.

Cases in mainland China have been dwindling since Mar, but the country faces a second wave of infections brought in from overseas.

It reported 32 new cases on Monday, down from 39 cases a day earlier. 

Egypt delivers medical aid to Italy despite severe shortages at home

06 April 2020; MEMO: Egypt’s health minister arrived in Italy on Saturday to deliver medical aid amid the coronavirus global pandemic.

Italy has recorded 128,948 infections so far with 15,887 deaths making it Europe’s worst-hit country.

Critics have spoken out against the move, the second in the course of several weeks, given Egypt’s own shortage of supplies in its battle against the disease.

UAE offers 4,000 bed site in London to NHS for free for corona battle

06 April 2020; MEMO: The UAE has waived rental and maintenance fees worth millions of dollars for the use of its giant London Excel centre which has been converted into a 4,000-bed emergency hospital amidst the coronavirus outbreak.

As much as $3.68 million a month was initially demanded for the use of the centre owned by Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Co. (adnec). The state-owned company, however, has done a U-turn and is now offering the mass site for free to the NHS.

Israel orders soldiers at largest army base to self-quarantine

06 April 2020; MEMO: The Israel Defence Forces on Saturday ordered soldiers at its largest base not to leave their rooms amid reports of a coronavirus outbreak there, Israel’s Kan news channel has reported. Soldiers at Camp Sharon in the Negev Desert have been told to stay there until further notice.

Ex-Libya PM dies of coronavirus

06 April 2020; MEMO: Former Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril died in the Egyptian capital Cairo from COVID-19 at the age of 68, a Libyan source said.

“Jibril actually died on Saturday late night, days after his infection with the novel coronavirus,” the source told Xinhua news agency yesterday.

The late Libyan official, whose death was officially announced on Sunday, spent ten days in isolation in a hospital in Cairo before his death, according to the source.
