Algeria Declares Nationwide Lock-down As COVID-19 Death Toll Hits 130

ALGIERS, Apr 5 (NNN-APS) – Algeria declared a nationwide lock-down to slow down the spread of COVID-19, which claimed 130 lives in the country.

The Algerian government, said that, a full lock-down has been maintained in the epicentre of the virus outbreak, the province of Blida.

Meanwhile, in nine provinces including Algiers, Oran, Medea, Setif, Ain Defla, Bejaia, Tizi Ouzou, Tlemcen and Tipaza, a partial lock-down will continue from 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 a.m., the statement added.

Albania Has A Total Of 333 Cases And 18 Deaths Related To COVID-19

TIRANA, Apr 5 (NNN-CNA) – Albania reported 29 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday (Apr 4), the highest daily number in a single day, as 2.8 million Albanians started a third 40-hour lock-down to break the contagion’s chain.

It now has a total of 333 cases and 18 deaths related to COVID-19.

As the map of infections widened, pictures of people milling around in an outdoor market ahead of the 1.00 p.m. lock-down prompted the government to impose stricter rules.

Spain Overtakes Italy In Corona Cases

BRUSSELS, Apr 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Spain’s confirmed COVID-19 case tally reached 124,736 on Saturday, surpassing Italy’s 124,632, according to the latest figures from the two countries.

The tally placed Spain first in Europe and second only to the United States worldwide, in terms of confirmed cases.

According to the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, at Johns Hopkins University, the United States confirmed more than 300,000 infections by Saturday afternoon.

New York Governor Says 1,000 Ventilators donated by China arriving

NEW YORK, Apr 5 (NNN-XINHUA) – A donation of 1,000 ventilators arrived in New York City on Saturday from China, said New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo.

“We finally got some good news today,” said the governor on Twitter. “The Chinese government helped facilitate a donation of 1,000 ventilators that will arrive in JFK (Airport) today (yesterday).”

Both on Twitter and at a press briefing on Saturday, Cuomo expressed thanks to Chinese business magnates and Alibaba co-founders, Jack Ma and Joe Tsai, Jack Ma Foundation and The Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation.

First Batch Of Students Released From Isolation In Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Apr 5 (NNN-BBNEWS) – The first batch of Bruneian students, who underwent isolation at several isolation centres, from Mar 20, completed their 14-day isolation yesterday.

Parents and family members were seen waiting patiently at various hotels, which had isolation centres, while the children underwent the process of checking out after isolation.

US Deaths From COVID-19 Top 8,000, Cases Top 300,000

NEW YORK, Apr 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States topped 300,000 by 3:40 p.m. local time Saturday (1940 GMT), according to the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

The fresh figure reached 300,915 with 8,162 deaths, according to the CSSE.

The state of New York, which suffered the most in the country, recorded 113,806 cases and 3,565 fatalities. Other states with over 10,000 cases include New Jersey, Michigan, California, Louisiana, Florida, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

Nivea India starts manufacturing hand sanitisers; to be distributed 'free of cost'

New Delhi, Apr 3 (PTI) Personal grooming products maker Nivea India on Friday said it has started production of hand sanitisers from its skincare manufacturing plants in collaboration with its key partners.

The company said its plant at Sanand in Gujarat which originally manufactures skincare products for the India market has begun production of alcohol-based hand sanitisers, and it will be shifting part of its production towards the making of sanitisers at the plant.

US sets new global record with 1,480 virus deaths in 24 hours: Johns Hopkins

Washington, Apr 4 (AFP/PTI) The United States recorded nearly 1,500 deaths from COVID-19 between Thursday and Friday, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker, the worst 24-hour death toll globally since the pandemic began.

With 1,480 deaths counted between 8:30 pm (0030 GMT) Thursday and the same time Friday, according to the university's continuously updated figures, the total number of people who have died since the start of the pandemic in the United States is now 7,406.

Trump recommends Americans wear face masks, but says he won't

Washington, Apr 4 (PTI) President Donald Trump has recommended Americans to cover their faces with scarves or homemade cloth masks while going outside to curb the spread of the coronavirus though he would not wear one himself.

Citing the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Trump urged people to wear face coverings like scarves or homemade cloth masks, and to keep medical-grade masks available for the health workers.
