India: PM Modi launches Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

New Delhi, Sep 27 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission to provide a digital health ID to people which will contain their health records.

The pilot project of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission had been announced by the prime minister from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15, 2020.

Currently, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is being implemented in a pilot phase in six union territories.

India: Bharat Bandh: Farmer bodies stage protests in TN

Chennai, Sep 27 (PTI) In solidarity with the nationwide strike demanding repeal of Centre's farm laws, farmer bodies and Left parties on Monday staged protests in several parts of Tamil Nadu.

In a protest held here, State Secretaries of the CPI and CPI(M), R Mutharasan and K Balakrishnan respectively, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi chief Thol Thirumavalavan and functionaries of the ruling DMK affiliated Labour Progressive Federation participated.

India’s farmers renew protests, challenging Modi government

NEW DELHI (AP) — Thousands of Indian farmers blocked traffic on major roads and railway tracks outside of the nation’s capital on Monday, marking one year of demonstrations against government-backed laws that they say will shatter their livelihoods.

The farmers have renewed their protests with calls for a nationwide strike on the anniversary of the legislation’s passage. The drawn-out demonstrations have posed one of the biggest political challenges to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who swept the polls for the second time in 2019.

India: Muslim community has no leader despite 19% population: Owaisi

India: 2 Kashmiris killed by Indian Sec Forces in Bandipora district of Indian Administered Kashmir

Srinagar, 26 Sep 2021: Two Kashmiris were killed on Sunday by Indian security forces in Bandipora district of the Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

Local police alleged that one of the Kashmiri was involved in the killing of BJP leader Waseem Bari and two of his family members.

India: Caste based Census is necessary, PMK tells Centre

Chennai, Sep 26 (PTI) A nationwide, caste wise enumeration, as part of the Census is an unavoidable necessity and hence should be carried out by the central government, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder leader S Ramadoss said on Sunday.

Pointing to the union government's contention in the Supreme Court of a policy decision since 1951 against caste wise enumeration, the PMK leader said taking such a stand is not in sync with the present times. It is a fact that it has been the Centre's policy for decades, but this is "not correct," he said in a statement.

India: Lawyers abstain from work a day after shootout at Delhi's Rohini court

New Delhi, Sep 25 (PTI) Lawyers abstained from work in all district courts in Delhi on Saturday, a day after jailed gangster Jitender Maan alias Gogi and his two assailants were killed in a shootout inside a courtroom in Rohini.

No work took place in the district courts, except urgent matters such as bail and custody extension, as the lawyers did not appear before judges, said Sanjeev Nasiar, the spokesperson of Coordination Committee of all District Courts Bar Associations in Delhi.

India: Cong extends application date for UP election tickets

Lucknow, Sep 25 (PTI) The Congress party on Saturday extended by a fortnight the date for its leaders and workers to apply for party tickets to contest the 2022 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

UPCC president Ajay Kumar Lallu, in a letter sent to the party leaders and office bearers, said the date for submission of applications earlier was September 25 but it has now been extended to October 10.
