India: Assam government orders inquiry into Bodoland encounter

Guwahati, Sept 21 (PTI) Assam government on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into the killing of two alleged United Liberation of Bodoland (ULB) militants by policemen, a day after a 12-hour bandh to protest the death brought life in the four districts of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) to a standstill.

India: Porn case: Look-out notice issued against two accused

Mumbai, Sep 21 (PTI) The crime branch of Mumbai Police has issued a look-out notice against two absconding accused in the pornography case allegedly involving businessman Raj Kundra.

The notice was issued against Yash Thakur alias Arvind Srivastava and Pardeep Bakshi on Sunday, a police official said.

Bakshi was allegedly connected directly to Kundra, while Thakur was also wanted in the case, he said.

The charge sheet filed in the case names the duo, the official added.

India: Dalit girl gangraped in Jharkhand, 3 arrested

Hazaribag (Jharkhand), Sep 21 (PTI) A 16-year-old Dalit girl has been allegedly gangraped in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district, police said on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police Manoj Ratan Chouthe said that three of the five accused have been arrested and a manhunt has been launched to nab the remaining two.

The incident took place in a village in Daroo police station area on Sunday night when the survivor, a student, and her two friends went near a pond to relieve themselves, the officer said.

India: Elgar case: court rejects medical bail plea of Shoma Sen

Mumbai, Sep 21 (PTI) A special NIA court here on Tuesday rejected an application filed by academician Shoma Sen, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, seeking interim medical bail.

Judge D E Kothalikar rejected 61-year-old Sen's plea.

Her application had cited her age and claimed that she suffered from multiple ailments including osteoarthritis, glaucoma and high blood pressure which could make her vulnerable to COVID-19.

India: ARAI develops charger for EVs

Pune, Sep 21 (PTI) The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has indigenously developed a charger for electric vehicles to give a push to the EV ecosystem in the country, as per a statement.

ARAI Director Reji Mathai said to promote EVs, infrastructure for charging is important and since the mobility chargers are imported, the association's focus is to develop these indigenously, which will be cost-effective and boost the local economy.

India: 16-yr-old girl abducted in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Sep 22 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly abducted by three men from near her house in Shukartal village here, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday when the girl had gone out of her house to throw garbage, they said.

In the police complaint, the girl's father accused Rajpal, Krishan Dutt and Pinku of kidnapping his daughter, police said.

The three reside in the same village and are absconding, they added.

India: Manipur Police arrests militant with huge explosive materials

Imphal, Sep 22 (PTI) Manipur Police arrested one active cadre of proscribed insurgent outfit People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (Prepak-Progressive) from Imphal West district and seized huge IED materials from his possession, a senior officer said.

Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, S Ibomcha Singh told PTI that police arrested the militant from Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai area under the jurisdiction of Lamphel police station of the district on Tuesday.

India: Zee Entertainment to merge with Sony Pictures

New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) India's largest publicly-traded television network Zee Entertainment Enterprises will merge with Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI), capping days of high drama during which the firm's shareholders sought removal of key officials.

Sony, which will invest USD 1.575 billion, will hold 52.93 per cent stake in the merged entity and Zee the remaining 47.07, Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) said in a statement.

India: 16 trains to remain cancelled on Jhansi-Kanpur section

Kanpur: As many as 16 trains have been cancelled or diverted as the single line section will be blocked for the movement of trains till September 28.

Giving information about this news, Deepak Kumar, Chief Information Officer, Northern Railways, said several trains have been cancelled given the blockage.

Operations of 16 trains will be stopped. Apart from this, several trains including the Lucknow LTT Special will run on diverted routes during this period.

India: Students confuse at missing lines of passage in online exam

Kanpur: It is reasonable on the part of the schools that they have been conducting their online examinations in just half an hour.

On Wednesday morning an eminent secondary school in the Jajmau area oversaw its first examination of moral science subject for Class VIII.

Though some students faced initial trouble in getting an online question sheet, the error in the very first question was overlooked.

The class teacher is a considerate lady who had to read two lines verbally as the answer was available in these lines.
