AUKUS aimed at securing Indo-Pacific: Australian HC to India

New Delhi, Sep 17 (PTI) Australia on Friday said its decision to join a security alliance with the US and UK is aimed at developing capabilities that can contribute along with India and other countries in deterring behaviour that threatens the peace and security in the Indo-Pacific.

India: New cases of dengue bring tally to 108 in Kanpur

Kanpur: Five new cases of dengue were reported on Wednesday thereby making the tally to 108 active cases across the district.

As per a report released by Kanpur Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the district reported five new dengue cases on Wednesday.

Out of the total 108 cases, 84 cases have been reported in the rural areas of the district.

The report further stated that 224 and 1125 tests were conducted for dengue and malaria and respectively across the district.

Two patients tested positive for malaria.No deaths were reported due to dengue in the district.

India: Tatas put in price bid for Air India

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) Tata Sons -- the holding company of India's largest conglomerate -- on Wednesday submitted a financial bid to acquire loss-making state airline Air India.

Tuhin Kanta Pandey, secretary of the department that is running the privatisation process, tweeted of financial "bids" being received but did not say how many companies were in fray.

A Tata Sons spokesperson confirmed to PTI that the group has put in a bid for the national carrier.

India: SAD condemns Haryana BJP statement on farmers' agitation

Chandigarh, Sep 15 (PTI) The SAD on Wednesday condemned the Haryana BJP for trying to defame the ongoing farmers' agitation by accusing it of encouraging drug addiction in the state.

In a statement here, SAD Kisan wing president Sikander Singh Maluka said, The BJP has been trying to defame the Kisan Sangharsh from day one. Earlier the peacefully agitating farmers were accused of being anti-national and even terrorists.

India looking at creating rocket force to face China aggression: CDS Gen Rawat

New Delhi, Sep 15 (PTI) India is looking at "creating a rocket force", Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat said on Wednesday even as he underlined the need for extensive use of niche technology to deal with various national security challenges, including possible aggression along the northern border by China.

India: Is 'abba jaan' an unparliamentary word, asks Adityanath

Lucknow, Sep 15 (PTI) Is abba jaan an "unparliamentary word", Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked on Wednesday, questioning why those who want Muslim votes are shy of using it.

"I have not taken any names. They want Muslim votes, why should they shun it? Is it an unparliamentary word? It is not. No one should have any problem with it," asserted the UP chief minister, facing the Oppositions' ire over his 'abba jaan' remark on Saturday in Kushinagar.

India: Schools conduct online classes due to showers on Thursday

Kanpur: Whether it is the city areas or Jajmau area or other adjoining regions, rains has dampened every corners. It remains the third day on Thursday that the residents have been enduring the showers.

At about 2.30 the rains has been a little bit slow but it again starts. The cloudy sky has caused darkness in Jajmau area. Bikers are hesitating to runn on the roads. Though waterlogging remains every where.

India: UP DGP asked to remain present in HC on Thursday too

Allahabad, Sep 15 (PTI) Calling a Mainpuri school girl, found hanging in her classroom in a suspicious condition in 2019, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday asked the UP police chief to remain present before it on Thursday too to apprise it of the details of the case.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari and Justice A K Ojha ordered the DGP to present before it after he spent the day in the court to go through the records of the case.

India: Gadkari reviews progress of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

Sohna (Haryana), Sep 16 (PTI) Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday reviewed the progress of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME), that is expected to halve the commute time between the national capital and the financial hub from nearly 24 hours to 12 hours.

The 8-lane expressway will cover Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

Gadkari also said that to reduce traffic jam problem and air pollution problem in Delhi-NCR, the road ministry is working on 15 projects worth Rs 53,000 crore.

India: Husband strangles his wife to death with dupatta

Kanpur: A case of strangulation has surfaced on Sunday while the wife was allegedly strangled to death on Saturday.

It was reported that the crime was done soon after the two had sex.  

The man allegedly strangled his wife with her dupatta.

The incident came to light when the woman's family members approached the cops and a complaint was filed.
