India: Court convicts ex-Minister of Atal Bihari Vajpayee gov in coal scam

New Delhi, Oct 6 (PTI) Former Union minister Dilip Ray was on Tuesday convicted by a special court here in a coal scam case pertaining to irregularities in the allocation of a Jharkhand coal block in 1999.

Special Judge Bharat Parashar convicted Ray, former minister of state (coal) in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, for criminal conspiracy and other offences.

India: 17-yr-old Dalit girl raped in UP's Pratapgarh

Pratapgarh, Oct 6 (PTI) A Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a man in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh following which the accused was arrested, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Sunday when the 17-year-old girl was sleeping in her house and the accused, identified as Chandrakesh verma, entered her room through the terrace and raped her, they said.

According to police, the girl was alone in the house at the time of the incident.

India: Top UPRF terrorist killed in encounter in Assam: Police

Guwahati/Diphu, Oct 6 (PTI) Martin Guite, the self-styled 'chairman' of militant outfit United People's Revolutionary Front (UPRF), has been killed in a night-long encounter in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team launched a search operation in the forests of Singhasan Hill on Monday night, a senior police officer from Karbi Anglong said.

India: Six-year-old girl raped by relative in UP's Hathras, dies

Aligarh (UP), Oct 6 (PTI) Even before the outrage over the gang rape-murder case of a Dalit woman in Hathras settled, a six-year-old girl from the district, who was allegedly raped by her relative, died during treatment at a hospital in Delhi, police said Tuesday.

The minor was held captive at a relative's house in Iglas area of Aligarh district and was rescued on September 17, Senior Superintendent of Police Muniraj G said.

India: CBI carries out searches at multiple premises of Cong leader DK Sivakumar

New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) The CBI is carrying out searches at 14 locations in Karnataka and Maharashtra at the premises of Congress leader D K Shivakumar in an alleged corruption case, officials said on Monday.

The agency has registered a fresh case against the Congress leader based on a source information, they said.

India: Delhi CM launches anti-air pollution campaign

New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday launched a mega anti-air pollution campaign, saying polluted air can be life threatening in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the campaign "Yudh Pradushan ke Virudh", separate plans have been prepared for each of the 13 pollution hotspots in the city, Kejriwal said during a digital press conference.

"Polluted air can be life threatening in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Both affect lungs," he said.

India: Dalit woman raped by 4 men in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi, Oct 4 (PTI) A 44-year-old married Dalit woman was allegedly raped here by four men, of whom two have been arrested, police said on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police Ram Badan Singh said a case has been registered against the two men based on a complaint lodged by the woman's husband.

The incident took place in Gyanpur area of the city, police said.

India: Truck driver, two others held for raping C'garh woman

Kondagaon, Oct 4 (PTI) A 34-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and raped by a truck driver and his two accomplices after they gave her a lift in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh, police said on Sunday.

The three men were arrested from Raipur following a police complaint and were brought here on Saturday, the police said.

"On October 1, the woman, who was on her way to Kondagaon from nearby Baniyagaon Village, had taken a lift on the truck which was heading to the capital," Station House Officer (SHO) of the Keshkal police station RP Sharma said.
